I have used Avira for years and love it.
Why are you saying this ? I have NEVER had a problem with Avira and Steam.
Maybe this should be posted in another forum, like off topic or hardware and OS.
Avira had horrible performance for me on Battlefield 4 and GTA V. Once I uninstalled it I got great performance again.
I say this because I'm having horrible performance with it. Avast has good performance but causes explorer to crash (I uninstalled it, but I installed it now again, its temporary.)
Also I post this here, because Avira is affecting most games I have. Like GTA V.
Avast is on the list, and so is Kaspersky. I have seen them be a problem with Steam for many, many times and many, many users here.
Uhh, no xD, does that help and how to do it? Does that fix the problem with the performance on games?
Is it possible to add more folders to the exception list? Because GTA is saved somewhere else (I got the disk version)
And my system is not riddled with viruses or trojans.
I keep all my programs updated. For browsing, I use Firefox configured with a whitelist for cookie usage, addons like uBlock Origin (to block ads), Ghostery (to block trackers), and NoScript (to block websites from running anything fancy, I choose which website is whitelisted). I also don't open email attachments from unknown people or click on suspicious links.
It's definitely more complicated to do it this way but also safer, in my opinion.
Yes, it surely may help. I suggest that you add the whole Steam folder to real-time scan exceptions and be done with it. Reboot your PC after making changes, just to be sure they take effect.

EDIT.. You also need to look at my first link given here in this thread and see if you have other possbily problematic software that can conflict with Steam. The list is not all inclusive, but it is an excellent source.
Thanks, I will definately try this. Do you use the free Avira?
Please see my edits to my post above.
I'm reinstalling avira, and I'm going to see if it works. Is it possible to add multiple folders to the exception list? Because I have GTA saved on a different folder and not in the steam folder, same for BF4 which is saved in the origin folder.
Yes. You can add individual files and folders as you wish, but if you just add game folders and something is going on there that is causing Avira to have an issue with Steam itself, then that will not do anything, because Steam.exe is not in any game's folders, you see.
Just add the whole Steam folder. That is the easiest way. Steam is not malicious, so why not, I say.
I'll add the steam folder and the origin folder, and the folder where GTA V is saved. Does that work?
Does that answer your question ?
