Windows 10 download issue
Hi, I never had this issue when I had my PC with windows 8.1. My normal download rate was 3Mb/s.

However, I just recently purchased a new PC that Windows 10 and now my download rate plummeted down to only ~150Kb/s!

I've tried restarting the router and changing the download region and still no change!

I am using an ethernet connect while in safe mode (I still am). I was using a wireless connection when I had the issue. And yes, the only program listed that I have is "Avast!"
There it is. Avast. I suggest you consider getting rid of Avast and getting another antivirus.

Now, you can test this while STILL in safe mode WITH networking and use your wireless device to download with. If your wireless device also shows improvement, then it is almost surely Avast.

For some reason I can't connect wirelessly while in safe mode WITH networking. Should I stay in this boot mode?

Yes, you should. We are using safe mode WITH networking to troubleshoot this, which is what that boot mode is mainly for. Troubleshooting.

Now why not ? Go to your device manager and see if your wireless device is reported in Windows as functioning normally. Using networking, your drivers for NIC and Wireless device should be loaded and working normally while in that boot mode.

I would also consider checking for an update to that specific wireless device. Look up the exact manufacturer of that device in device manager. Go to the website for that device and search for an updated driver for Windows 10.

Since you said you just bought this PC, that would be my suspicions also....that it needs updating with drivers and maybe even the OS, unless you have done all that already.

Finally, consider your router as the problem with a wireless connection. Yes you had no problem before, but you have W10 now and a totally different PC also.

Yes. I have updated the the wireless drive. It's a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 Wireless Network Adapter version 12.0.0.116

Link me to the website where you downloaded that driver from, the one for that Wireless Network Adapter.

Is this a Lenovo ? Better yet, post the exact manufacturer of that computer, please, or link me to the Newegg add for it.

EDIT..Is this Windows 10 64bit ?

You know, that is not the manufacturer's website, but a third party site for drivers. Using drivers from a questionable souce is not a good idea.

See my edit above, please, about this computer and if you have 64bit or 32bit Windows.

Yes this is Windows 10 64-bit

What about my other question ? Can you please post your exact PC model and manufacturer or link me to the Newegg add for it ?

This is where you should have gone to download the driver.

http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/NX.MVRAA.004

My suggestion now would be to uninstall that wireless driver and install the one from the official website of Acer, as linked. Don't install drivers from third party websites unless you have absolutely no other choice. Not sure why you did that here, since your PC is still supported by Acer.

I can't seem to find the driver anywhere on the site. Either it's not here or I haven't searched hard enough

The actual page will not link here. I have it up on my PC here now. The download for that specific driver for that wireless device and W10 64bit. Use the search features and manually navagate to your PC.

You need to make sure of what specific model of device you have. There seems to be two for Atheros, the NFA435 and the NFA335.The newest one is only a few days old also, interestingly enough. (November 24, 2015)

Wireless LAN Acer Wireless LAN Driver 12.0.0.116 73.5 MB 2015/11/27 Download
Wireless LAN Atheros Wireless LAN Driver (NFA335) 10.0.0.324 49.3 MB 2015/11/24 Download
Wireless LAN Atheros Wireless LAN Driver (NFA435) 12.0.0.116 69.1 MB 2015/11/24 Download
Wireless LAN Atheros Wireless LAN Driver 10.0.0.318 59.2 MB 2015/07/28 Download
Wireless LAN Broadcom Wireless LAN Driver 7.35.303.0 149.5 MB 2015/11/24 Download
Wireless LAN Intel Wireless LAN Driver 18.12.0.3 184.6 MB 2015/11/24 Download

Keep in mind that this specific issue could still be because of your router and not your wireless device. Still, I would be concerned about having that driver from a third party site and not from Acer, you see.

Just so you know, there are BIOS updates for your computer also. That is a seperate thing alltogether here, so check on that later if you wish.
