Cannot activate Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward code on the Mog Station

Hello. I bought Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on steam a while ago and just recently, my brother bought Heavensward for me on Amazon. He sent me the code so I could redeem it on the Mog Station and it keeps saying that he code is invalid. This has been frustrating me so much and I can't understand why the code won't work on the Mog Station.

*Note that Steam users who have “Account Type: (Steam)”listed on their service account will only be able to redeem Steam codes on their account. Heavensward codes from other retailers for the Windows version will not work on a Steam account.

So you need to buy Heavensward on Steam in order to add it to your Steam copy of the game. The retail copy from Amazon will not work with the Steam copy of Final Fantasy XIV.

Well crud. Does that also mean I cannot use a Steam Bought Heavensward expansion on my store bought Collector's Edition?
