Steam SMS costs money ? ...
So I wanted to verify my steam with my mobile phone but then I saw it would send an SMS to do so and also that it "could" cost money. Since I have no SMS flat in my contract because I render SMS nowadays outdated, I think this would cost me money?

Do the SMS messages you send cost me anything?
Standard messaging charges may apply; check your wireless phone plan to confirm.
So not by default.

False, it will apply by default. Because having a SMS flat is NOT default.

Addition: It doesn't matter whether you send the SMS or steam sends it to you, in both cases you need to pay except you have a flat that says SMS are free for you or you have X free SMS before it cost.

That depends on your carrier and phone plan. When I used to have a plan with no text/date, I got charged for both incoming and out going texts. SMS was, if I recall, considered date, so the same applied. Incoming calls also count for the voice limit, not just out going calls.

If you didn't get the text or SMS, then you wouldn't be charged as no data was sent.

That might be totally dependant on country and your plan.
In germany, you don't pay for receiving normal sms.

There are premium sms services, but that's something different.

Is it normal for you to pay for a call you get?
Why should it be normal to pay for a sms to get?

If your plan doesnt say, you pay for receiving things again, its right to assume that the default is that only the sender/caller pays.
You dont have to assume that receiving costs. It has to be written.
I live in germany and I never heard of incoming SMS is free of charge but whatever I wouldn't even risk it because I don't have a SMS flat.

It would make no sense the other way because in this case the one at charge would be Valve and I'm pretty sure they don't waste money to send silly users a SMS just because some countrys decided only the guy that sends the SMS needs to pay.

Well, someone with a flat of sending could make you pay.
I am sure you would have heard of that.....
So, where did you read getting a usual sms costs you money?
I don't speak about a usual SMS because a SMS of valve isn't usual it's a company, if you get a SMS from a random person you probably don't have to pay but I'm pretty sure valve is sending it on a way that would cause you to pay the fee it would make no sense otherwise, because you are the one that wants to receive a SMS to verify your account. It's not them that wants something from you.
