The main scam you run into is people asking you to "Send the money as a gift" instead of sending the money as "Payment for goods and services"
If you send the money as payment for goods and services, paypal will work on your behalf to refund you if the other party did not provide what you agreed to buy from them. In my experience, NEVER send money as a gift, unless it is, of course, a gift.
I exclusively use Paypal and I love it

The ONLY thing you can do with Paypal is buy things from the Steam Store. Thats it. ANYTHING ELSE IS NOT SUPPORTED

There are a lot of people using paypal to scam people. While paypal is safe for purchases from a retailer, it can be used to scam when doing things from person to person.
If the user takes the items and never sends the money, Valve will not replace the items as you would have confirmed it as a gift on their system.
As with any form of payment, it is how you use it that determines how safe it is.

I see, thank you- simple common sense and caution seems to be the best defense from what i can see.
Wanted to ask also, what about a donation/pay for services link for mods or art?
"paypal .me" i think it's called. That's always been a dream of mine.
Any thing about that i should know?
Donation services would be hosted by 3rd parties. Maybe you could use something like Patreon instead. Or other donation type services. Steam doesn't support that.
With regards to Steam Trading specifically follow the golden rule
Unless EVERYTHING fits in a SINGLE trade window DO NOT DO THE TRADE.
If you follow this simple rule, you cannot be scammed on Steam. Ever. But once you go outside the rules, your protection vaporizes. As you said, use common sense, and if something is 'too good to be true' there's a reason. It is.
That of course scared me. I assume it's some kind of scam, yes?
