No it does not. Steamwebhelper.exe does not get added to your list of exeptions in your firewall. Viewing my Firewall event log shows Steamwebhelper.exe being blocked by my firewall. By adding it to my exeptions, it does not show up in my computers event log anymore, and my connections are now allowd through steam integrated web browser via steamwebhelper.exe and HTML5 Player.
Really? Then how did I get that message when I tried to add it?
Believe me, that is exactly what it said, which is why I put it in quotes.
It's already there. Why would I lie? After years now of trying to cure this problem, why would I lie if there was a fix?
Jeez, I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but I'm starting to think you are just trolling for laughs or something.
If you're not trolling or looking haughtily at those "ignorant" users trying to find a solution for the age-old issue with freezing embedded YT videos in the DRM client, it may be useful to know your OS version/what kind of firewall do you use - default or 3rd party.
I won't pretend here (like some others) I'm someone with deep knowledge of coding/network functionality etc. so correct me if I'm wrong but if steamwebhelper.exe were blocked by the (windows) firewall, it basically wouldn't receive any data at all.
Windows 7 64BIT
Deafualt Firewall
And yes, steamwebhelper did and did not recieve data. According to my Event Log
So it did receive from one source and not from another for example?
I've thought firewall has blocked all incoming/outgoing traffic of an application unless you've added an exception.
Anyway, I've got several exceptions for steamwebhelper.exe in my default win7 64 firewall so thanks for trying to help but your suggestion most likely won't work for most people.
That's it, rub it in why don't you
:)
I should say that another thing I did was copy the webhelper.exe inside the bin folder.
Usally it is located at YOUR STEAM DIRECTORY / bin / cef / cef.win7 / steamwebhelper.exe
I copied steamwebhelper.exe from there, and just pasted it in the bin file directory also where other steam.exe programs are located ... that could also be the fix
I am pretty sure you are only in an temporary "it works" phase and it dosn't any thing to do with you firewall settings. It is a time period of "hi I am steam and now I will play YT for some time, but someday it is raining or sunny and it is thusday or friday I will freez again, cya"
I have checked my Firewall and both path of helper exe are allready included from steam install or update itself.
C:\Steam\bin\steamwebhelper.exe
C:\Steam\bin\cef\cef.win7\steamwebhelper.exe
And yes the steamwebhelper.exe is missing in C:\Steam\bin\, I give them a try.
EDIT: AND
no, it dosn't working. copy steamwebhelper.exe to the bin folder will freez steam too,

I have to say, sometimes these video links will work fine for me, even for a few days, and then suddenly, they won't work at all again for weeks.
Then they might work once or twice here and there.
It's pretty random.
The only thing I found that will guarantee they will work for a short time (usually until a restart of steam/PC) is to delete cookies in steam client. Then they will work. For a bit.
When the client freezes again, just go in your task manager and delete the steamwebhelper proces. Because its the steamwebhelper proces that freezes or hangs
This might proove you wrong

I had the same issue in my event viewer, because steamwebhelper.exe was not in the bin folder where it should be also.
Look at comment no.3 .... that solved my problem together with adding it to a firewall .. not sure wich one helped me out
I have never ever had webhelper in my main steam folder, and never had any issues until this one.
I have tried your suggestions and nothing has changed at all. So you are proving nobody wrong at all.
If it worked for you then great. But that just means you don't have the exact same issue the rest of us are having, or you just got lucky somehow. I doubt very much that firewall and moving webhelper had anything to do with it. Especially not moving webhelper, because that makes no sense. Steam knows where it needs to put files, and if they aren't in the right place it will change them around at the next update, which come pretty regularly.
