Redeeming accidental gift purchase. (Please help!)
In the process of giving a friend a game as a joke, I accidentally sent a game in my cart that I meant for myself as well. Now, when I go to "gifts" and click "add to library," it tells me "called object was in an invalid state." I have no idea what this means, or how to solve my issue. It started last night, and this morning, is doing the same thing.

The game was an expensive one I want to be playing. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Bump.

Bumping is not allowed.

I suggest contacting the friend and having him/her either decline the gift or save it to inventory and gift it back.

There is no other way (that I am aware of) to fix this issue.

I suggest being more careful in the future.

Thank you, but I have read that thread, and it didn't help. Any other suggestions? If this doesn't resolve itself in a few days, is there a way to contact anyone at Steam for further assistance? I've been reading all over trying to fix this. Thanks.
I had that issue as well i bought 2 games, one as a gift and one for a friend, but both were gifted on accident.

But i found a way to fix it:
-In the steam client click on the little envelope in the upper right, (just left of your user name.)
-Click on "# new gifts" (#=1,2,3,... depending on you)
-Here you will see all you pending out and incoming gifts. Click on the item you want for yourself.
-On the right side you will now see options: click on "send gift"
-From here select "Return the gift to your account"

Huzzah, you should now be able to play the game.

I think it has something to do with the other persons account being not currently active so steam gets confused.

I tried it again, and this time it tells me that the operation ("gifting" the game back to myself) was a success. However, the game still isn't visible in my library. I checked to make sure I had not selected "installed." I restarted Steam as well.

How did you redeem it? It would be nice if you would answer, in case someone with the same problem pops up. Linking a (useful)thread is easier than to guess again :P
