Steam adding games to my wishlist and library without my knowledge
Hello, this is my first post and I didn't found any similar with the same issue.

The thing that bothers me is Steam is adding items to my wishlist without my knowledge and consent. From time to time when I check my wishlist I find games that were added that I see for a first time or games that I would never add on my own.

Examples of games added to my wishlist:
- Nexomon - I don't like pokemon type games, never heard about the game till now and apparently I added it in 2019;
- OPUS: Echo of Starsong - I don't play visual novels nor I care for them, apparently I added it before the release in 2021, this is the first time I hear about the game;
-Papetura - This is first time I hear about the game but somehow it's on my wishlist since 2021, I don't like point and click games;
-Shardpunk - same as previous one, the game just don't look like a game I would enjoy so I don't know why it's on my wishlist

Examples of games added to my library:
-Gems of War - Puzzle RPG - I only know about this game because of “Turn-based RPG” sale that is today, when I clicked on Free to Play games I got this one with a tag “In Library”. I checked my library and game is nowhere to be found

I have nothing against those games, they may even be great games but I never knew about them before and yet they are in my library and wishlist.
Anyone know if this is a bug from Steam or a failed attempt of promoting games? I really hope Steam is not adding some random games to my wishlist because it’s annoying to delete them from there every time I look through it.

No new items on my wishlist nor new games added to my library. Someone with access to your account is adding them.

Sorry but the only way this can happen is if someone else has access, most likely.

You CANNOT say for sure nobody has access to your PC unless you've done a variety of checks to make sure.

So what malware checks and antivirus scans have you done?

I clearly stated someone has access to your account. I made no mention of your PC.

If as you claim Steam is auto adding them I would also have that issue.

I've done several hard drive formats since 2019 (some added games were even older), and even changed from a laptop to a PC, so I don't see how any kind of malware would do that. I also moved place three times so possibility of a roommate or other person doing this to mess with me is 0.

So?

None of that demonstrates you don't have malware or anything.

I'll ask again, what scans have you done?

I'm not claiming you or any other person have this issue...
And if you don't believe me then stop spamming the topic...
You do understand that different users can have different issues?

If I had a malware and changed the machine, the malware should stay on the old laptop and not affect new PC. Formatting a hard drive removes all the data from it.

Lately I only use windows defender and quick scan didn't showed anything. I'll perform a longer scan tomorrow and let you know.
in Windows Virus & threat protection I have everything up to date or "No action needed".

Nope, not necessarily.

I can't help you then.

If you keep making excuses as to why there's no malware or anything without doing simple checks then you're unable to be helped/

You could look at your recent login history to see if you spot anything unusual:

This is a discussion forum.

Steam DOES NOT auto add items to your wishlist nor add 3rd party games to your library.

For example you have to literally click Add to Library for Gems of War to appear in your library. If you did not click it someone else did.

Do all the following:

1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/

2. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

3. Change passwords from a clean computer

4. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

5. Revoke the API key at https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (there should be NOTHING in the APIKEY)

When finished remove the items from your wishlist and library you did not add.

I wasn’t suggesting malware just at some point someone got your login info and might have been using the account on another pc

have you used your steam login in any 3rd party website?

check your steam and email login history, If they have your account details they can do it from anywhere in the world.

I don’t really have anything to add apart from I too have been having random stuff added to my Wishlist (not library as far as I know) I’ll get emails telling me stuff in my Wishlist is on sale and I’ll check and it’ll be a game I've never seen before. Now I’ll be the first to admit I’m not super tech savvy but I find it extremely hard to believe someone got access to my account JUST to Wishlist games.. What’s the logic? They Wishlist it and I’ll be like oh ♥♥♥♥ lemme buy this game for the ghost on my account??
Some of these responses just sound condescending tbh.
