Game download issue
So i tried installing the dishonored games today but noticed my disk speed was fluctuating a lot and im wondering is there an issue here? I've had lots of installation problems with specifically steam for a long time but most of the time they just go away or there's an easy fix but i haven't found one for this. Any help would be appreciated as i don't really know what the issue is but I've already checked my SSD out and a few other things so I'm not sure what could be causing it. I get a consistent 200+ mbps download speed when it works but for some reason the disk usage jumps to around there and just slowly declines to 0 before repeating it over and over. Thanks for the help in advanced!
EDIT: That issue has been fixed and it isn’t fluctuating as much anymore, however now my download speed seems capped at about 50 Mbps whereas it used to get around 100-200 Mbps.

This is what it looks like in my downloads if this helps at all.

Probably not the cause in your case but it's a quick thing to try. Disable write cache (in windows) for your SSD when downloading on Steam, it shouldn't be necessary but it does fix it for some people.

+ as Lithurge point out

And lacking of free space will suffer in more performance issue, games today are past 100gb
this mean 300gb free space as woring space while installing or patching, and it dont make it better if this is boot disk where OS is thern its 500gb, OS also use work space.

That looks pretty normal though likely slow.

It's supposed to stop and start like that as downloads are compressed and encrypted so it stops while it sorts out chunks of data.

However, make sure you don't make the age-old mistake. That of filling up your drive too much.

Valve recommend that you don't go over 90% of your hard drive's space and when you donwload something you should allow up to THREE times the total filesize for it to do all it's number crunching.

If you don't pay attention to that it WILL slow down as it's desperately trying to carve the data up and find small spaces to stick it in.

Downloads to my SSD don't display that behaviour at all, as fast it downloads it's writing the data to the disk with no drops to zero. That's on a 500Mbps connection.

Hey all, thanks for the replies. I’ve tried disabling write cache and sadly it did not work. Also, i don’t believe it’s a space issue as i have about 1.5TB free space on that drive. I’m really not sure what it could be, but i’ve tried things in other threads and such and none of them have seemed to work.

You should post here what the percentage usage is of those system resources are under Task Manager then so we can take a look and try to get clues.

Again you need to confirm things like you've tried a wired connection instead of wifi, and detail what checks you've made of your setup at your end - from cabling, where you have your router, have you updated the firmware lately and so on.

The more details you can give, the better we can help hone in on the issues.

And it's CLEARING the write cache. Not disabling it :) You'd be in dire straits if that were the case.

I'm not sure you understand the post. I was saying the BEHAVIOUR is normal though the speed is slow.
