"Steam needs to be online to update"

Howdy,

Recently I got my computer back from bestbuy after my HDD died, and I got another 8 gig ram stick and a new NVME and HDD. Everything on the old drive was lost, I basically have a new laptop.

I am trying to install steam; it nearly finishes but before it can it states the "FATAL ERROR" window, reading "Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again."

Now I have already tried troubleshooting, mainly following this list of options [ https://www.easytutorial.com/fix-steam-needs-be-online-update.html ] so far none have worked.


-I have tried disabling my firewalls, antivirus, and changing the DNS.
-I have tried changing install locations (C/D drives)
-Running steam as admin
-Turning the computer on and off again
-Uninstalling and reinstalling steam (6 times with PC restarts in between)
-Adding the "-tcp" parameter in properties > shortcut > target line
Editing the "hosts" file to include the steam addresses (on the guide link I posted earlier)
-ipconfig flushing.


-I have not yet tried getting the steam folders from another user
-Cannot use the Regedit method, steam cannot install, gets stuck at 93/94kb out of 109kb (after already trying to install and run out of the wizard, which is unsuccessful)

The internet itself works fine for everything else; downloading, youtube, installing minecraft, social media, etc.



Please let me know if any other methods work, any help is appreciated.

If you have a new hard drive that was installed, I would first suggest you make sure Windows and all drivers are up to date, as well as installed.

Don't use Windows update to get the drivers. Go to the official website of the PC or motherboard, and search there, and download them there and install/update them.

Checked, everything looks fully up to date.

How did you check if your drivers are up to date?

Device Manager, or I googled the driver itself. And checked windows update just in case.

Windows Update, just a waste of time.
Update them manually, all of them, not just your video driver.

Goolge sfc /scannow

Reset laptop network drivers and connection profil even forget this network might be needed, that is seen before on laptop , they go wrong with roming network or screw somethings up , even seen it on same network, after you fiddle with it.


Keep in mind we all see diffrence on the subject, ask any laptop owner , then you change gateway home/rep stroe network can give issue. then return home and it look like you got it.
then is seen many times, not sure what cause this. but its laptop owner own problem to learn to reset network connection and redo configuration.

Ive updated all of the drivers that popped for updates using DriverEasy, no effect with steam.

So all drivers are updated using DriverEasy, nothing has changed. Am I missing something?
Beforehand I did go to Samsungs site to download the NVMe 970 Eplus stuff and ran the installer, so shouldn't that be it for drivers?

If it's not drivers, I really don't know what else other than antivirus, I did get WebRoot installed and made sure to shut it down or "Put to sleep" along with windows defender, Is there more to this process i'm missing?

are you have any other device at steam . mobil or tablet or whatever so if it seen that unit as offline then all is offline now..

please dont tell us later that steam is ij offline mode or friends & chat is offline.

ps.
keep in mind i have ner had this issue i have to force it with 100% cpu work so resource is not there for keep alive packet on network.

do not have OC or maybe even netcard in powersaveing , again i or we as helper fishing for a cause why someone got offline mode. every person that contact steam seem to get it fixed or give up, do have win10 and no issue with windows sync time or not update.

Don't bother paying for driver updaters, instead go to Snappy Driver Installer Origin.
