What are the advantages of buying a PC DVD ROM rather than downloading?

I was looking up some next gen games on Amazon and one of the ones I saw was GTA V and it was £35 for the PC DVD. Can I redeem this on Steam or not?

There was also a bundle with GTA V, AC Unity and Far Cry 4 for £108 which is a good deal for all three. So should I wait for Valve to put their asses in gear and actually list the damn games and their prices or just buy the DVD?

Well if you look on the amazon store page most of the time it will say if you need a Free Steam account to active the game

I think its abut the same if you buy from there or Steam, if it active on Steam it will be the same.. but sometimes you can find a better price there..

Any case i do not think GTA V is sold yet to pc at all

But FarCry and AC i think will active on UPlay and not on Steam

What do you mean it's not sold to PC yet? The pre-order is on Amazon and Steam has a page for it but no details.

If the retail package is a Steam game too, you'll get DVD(s) that the Steam client should be able to "download" from (only tried this once, with Darksiders. I don't trust installers for Steam games, but the assumption was that the Steam client is doing things properly) -- and, more importantly, you'll get a key to be used on Steam.

There are even claims that nowadays, the DVD boxes don't always include a DVD at all -- apparently, some of them only contain the key.

right.. ok just before it you did not say Pre-order so i was thinking you mean they really sale it, so was not sure..
On any case if the page dose not say anything abut it you may want to wait and see, The price is not very likely to go up and they may select to go with other DRM (even that not very likely)

well i remmber when my Bro got CoD: MW2 all it had inside was a Steam install folder XD

Download time, I guess, if you ever uninstall a game and decide to want to play it again.

DVD versions often require a form of DRM that makes the DVD obsolete. Many are shipped with an earlier/incomplete version of the game, then when you connect to your DRM you may have to download an update or the entire game depending on what the developer chooses. Most DVD games cannot be resold/trade in since they are bonded to an account. If you do resell it, the new owner can use pictures of the physical version/key to claim ownership of the game which can create negative repurcussions for your account.
