It is also an Early Access game. Even the developer is unsure what they are making or where they are going with it. Right now they are working on the engine.
There is a lot of PvP going on in servers too, as well as trolling, especially against new players. It is an on-line only game at the moment, so you can't avoid those things unless you rent your own server.
In all honesty, I wouldn't get it for a 13yo. Maybe if it was finished and all the features are there, but in it's current state, no.
A 13-year-old who is eager to play will figure it out in no time at all.
As mentioned, at youtube you can get an insight, also twitch is a way to check in (new) games.
Fine is, that you ask, try to get help in forehand. :O)
At least, the nudity or sexual language, i guess every kid learns it already at school. But this doesnt mean he should have access to this all the time. A bombardement for hours of this sexual language can influence maybe his vocabulary. Or maybe not, this you can answer, coz you know your son better as we ever could.
In my opinion, a normal kid, can play some titles that is for some years up, but at a restricted time. And dont stand behind him all the time... thats pain in the butt.
Better would be, if you both play it together btw., or don't you think so?
You have an eye what he is playing, gets a perfect insight and you both can have fun together.
Joey :O)
PS: Terraria is realy great to play together, and for his age absolutly ok.
Not too sure how I'd feel about him playing it by himself with the high proportion dodgy characters the game seems to have attracted.
We've play on sparsely populated servers recently and find the population on these quite helpful.
