Help with LAN transferring
My brother and I are trying to transfer a game over our LAN, but for some reason the thing still won't let us.
Following the steps from here: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/46BD-6BA8-B012-CE43 we're pretty sure there aren't any problems. Something we're running into is that, even though we both have the Game Transfer Setting enabled and set to "anyone" he's still getting message "Note: This game could be transferred locally; to do that, enable local transfers on device [desktop name]
Local transfers are definitely enabled on both computers
Any ideas what the problem might be?

You both own the game? I hope so, as i don't think transferring the game will work, as both you and your brother have to own the game SEPERATELY. Otherwise your breaking the TOS of steam, you know, the thing you accepted and probably did not read and just ignored it.

This could be the whole issue as you both do not own the game. Also, does your brother have his own account?

Yes, we both own the game SEPARATELY, and yes we both have our own accounts. We've played it together recently, he just decided to wipe his computer and we were hoping that we could use this to speed up the download process as it's a big game.
(And I have read the Steam TOS, recently even :) )

Ok, well maybe they had a issue when they wiped their pc. Did they reinstall everything in the right place? Perhaps they changed the location where steam games go? Wiping and reinstalling can be tricky sometimes if you do not put everything in the right place.

As for the download speed itself, it could be many factors. For example, your ISP could be throttling your speed, if someone else in your house is using the same internet provider, location of where you live, and even steam throttles downloads too.

Note that the game transfer only works if you're on the same network subnet. Are you sure you're both on the same local subnet? People set up their networks in weird ways
