How to take screenshots? (F12 not working)
I'm relatively new to Steam, and one of the things I'm wanting to use it for is screenshots. Every search result I've seen says to use F12 to take screenshots, but when I press F12 on my laptop, literally nothing happens. (Also, where are the screenshots stored? I look in my regular Screenshots folder on my laptop, and there's nothing there.)

Oh, and yes, Steam Overlay is enabled. Still nothing.

The only thing that works is the Prt Sc button, but that's extremely imprecise (there's a second-long lag between pressing the button and when the screenshot comes up), and it includes other stuff in the background of Steam.

All I want is in an internal Steam-only screenshot feature that works instantaneously when I press the button. (Some of the shots I want to take have to be timed almost to the exact frame.) Is there a way to do this? How do I get F12 working for this?

Screenshots are store in your steam folder

The path is:
C:\ Program files (x86) \ Steam \ userdata \ SteamID \ 760 \ remote\ App ID \ screenshots

Where it says “Steam ID” replace it with the numbers that make up your Steam ID number, and for “App–ID replace it with the game’s ID number

Otherwise you can access this file path directly by right clicking on any screen shot you have already taken and select "show on disk"

Are you using macbook? If so try pressing FN and f12 maybe..

There is no "760" folder under my SteamID's folder.

Also, I can't right click any screenshot because there are no screenshots to right click at all, which is exactly my problem.

I'm using a Windows laptop, but I tried pressing FN and F12 together (this is what I normally have to do to access the F keys), but again, nothing.
ctrl + alt + print screen should do only the window you are on. i believe there is also another way to do it for a specific app.

Most games take screenshots with the F12 button. If your playing a possibly indie game that uses rpg maker, then no, the f12 button will not take screenshots, but will shut down the game your playing. In that case, you can make the screenshot by putting it in the artwork section of the game.

Thanks, I'll try this.

EDIT: Just tried it, and pressing Ctrl + Alt + Prt Scrn did nothing.

Ah, this explains it. I'm trying to take screenshots in Undertale. It doesn't shut down the game, but it also doesn't capture anything.

Steam > Settings > In game > Take a screenshot
No matter what button I change it to, it doesn't work.

Take a look to Steam > Settings > Cloud > Screenshot management is the slider on?

Some games just don't work. You can't create Screenshots for them. At least not that I know of.
An example would be Carrier Command: Gaea.

Perhaps try another game to see if it is the game or your system.
