Friends see me offline

Hey there!

It was hard to discover, because it's subtle... but apparently Steam friends (but I guess everyone) see me offline even if I'm not.

ALL my privacy settings are on Public.

I had until recently the "game time" on private (don't know why), so people couldn't see my achievements. Turned it off, now they can see them. But they still can't see if I'm online.

I do not use the Chat app, so my only active login is on my PC.

I search all Settings and in the forums, but nothing seems to work.

Anyone other experiencing this? YOU MAY NOT KNOW IT! Ask your friends if they see you online or not!

Any ideas on how to solve it?

Is your online status set to Invisible perhaps? Up top, switch your status to online (Friends --> Online), or open up the Friends & Chat window and select "Online" from the dropdown list by your name.

Well if you went through settings and checked on your status and all that jazz, then it might just be a hiccup on Steam's end since it's a Tuesday on their side which is a standard maintenance day. In addition, there's an active sale going on right now. So you can try shutting down Steam and restarting to see if that helps to clear it up, or see if the problem continues to persist into tomorrow when both maintenance and the sale ends.

So what status does it say in your friends window? Does it show offline?

It says Online, like I am always am.
Sign in to friends when Steam starts is already on.

The only time I've seen this myself, I fixed via the usual methods.

That of trying first to clear the web cache under Steam settings. That didn't work in my case. So I went to the method of going to your steam install folder and deleting everything EXCEPT steam.exe and steamapps folder. Then you run steam.exe and it automatically reacquires everything it needs.

THat usually fixes a whole host of corruptions and weirdness.

If it persists after that, safe to say it's nothing on your system and likely something in the pipeline between Steam's servers, your ISP and you.
