Slow downloads for Steam fix maybe
So I don't have a completely crappy computer (i5-12600K, 32gb DDR4 4,000MT/s and a Solidigm P44 Pro) and 1gb up and down download speed yet a simple 10gb game can take 20 mins to download. I have been googling my face off and with the help of chatgpt I believe I have a solution I just tested and would need more testing from other sources. So I tried different server regions with no success but came across Process Lasso https://bitsum.com/ and set all of steam priority for CPU to always stay High and with out restarting steam during my download of CS 2 it went from constantly dipping to 0 to a consistent 77MB/s. I know I don't need process lasso but I don't want to mess with files and or the registry so I went with this. Also, you don't have to use Lasso you can just go into Task manager and manually do it everytime you close and open steam I believe it would stay on High Priority if you never close steam but my pc shuts itself off when I go to sleep.

Something went wrong while displaying this content. Refresh

Google this yourself MS already have post with it.

ps.
Don't forget game devs use multicore cpu and scripts and consequence of this, thry don't mention at all, they dont talk about a gamer's point of view at all.

Game devs do not test for this ( any high end gamer know this game script and consequence of this is not funny then open world game can have 1000 of hours in playtime.

It might work fine for you , but i bet there will be steam user that get angry then it do not work, and most here will not think of this then pc dont work as it should.

And we are back at user own mistake or he forgot he did it.

ps.
FFS make sure BIOS and chipset Driver is update, make sure you do not have other pc issue at all.

You have managed to download the game at an average speed of 8 megabytes per second.

10 gigabytes is not the same as 1 gigabit per second.
A gigabit is 1/8th gigabyte.
Reaching the maximum speed isn't instant, it takes a curve, which means you should be obtaining the game in about slightly under 2 minutes, rather than 20 minutes.

You're downloading at 1/15th of your max speed.

Now it is very easy to say "Aha! it is Steam! because Good Ol Games downloads fast!"
or something---

Who cares.
The fact is that you have this issue and others do not, and so you need to work around it, or wait longer.

Another side note is that GoG and other normal downloads are all single processor thread tasks; because javascript runs on 1 thread.
if one thread is fast, then how come 16 threads or however many you have on your cpu is slow?

A lot of times it has to do with power saving.

Try looking into cpu core parking, performance power plan, cpu offloading, and other tcp tweaks.

You didn't read my post. 10gb game takes way to long to download with my computer nothing and I mean nothing is wrong with it. You didn't even look into the program Chatgpt and I tweaked how steam communicates with my pc. If steam was working correctly it would coincide with this calculation.
Convert 100 GB into megabits (Mb):
100 GB
×
1024 MB/GB
×
8 Mb/MB
=
819,200 Mb
100 GB×1024 MB/GB×8 Mb/MB=819,200 Mb

Divide by the download speed:
819,200 Mb divided by
1241.21 Mbps

660 seconds

Convert seconds to minutes:
660

Result:
It would take about 11 minutes to download a 100 GB game at a speed of 1241.21 Mbps. and I get it will have fluctuations. I own multiple of the same game on Steam, Epic, EA and Ubi steam consistently downloads slower. As of writing this I have an Idea I will record it and upload the video. Something is wrong with steam.

OP test with a spare pc or friends laptop, if it work there then its not a steam or ISP issue but your pc. ( this actual matter so you can focus on right issue and not know if this is your network or ISP or steam in other ned. ) this is know as detail matters, and faulty finding where you think is the problem.

To ruleout own network into steam is a huge part of narraow down where it come from.

Don't forget you busted yourself if spare pc work like it should.

yea attack the person trying to fix the problem and not point the finger at steam. Explain to me why mods lock most threads talking about. I used my sisters laptop a few months back downloading games it does it there too it's steam Its been like this since 2018 with the UI change.
