I'm not sure if it only shows stuff purchased from Steam or if it'll include code activations(like bundles too).
But I don't see why this would make someone seem better than you. If anything, it's probably meant to make you think that if your friend got some multiplayer thing, you might want to consider it too.
Sure, that is not (only) an invasion of privacy.
It also could be called stalking.
And really, if you care so much about who is better in a game....you may want to pause playing for a bit...
