Can't install steam game on my HDD
Hello everone. I am currently having trouble with intalling my game on an HDD. In my program files x64, I put a folder in it called steam. When I try to install a game in that folder, it says that folder must be writeable. I am trying to install Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead. This is urgent, and I need help as soon as possible.

Why are you doing it that way ? Steam makes it own game folders in the steamapps/common folder. You don't have the permissions to do that , it seems. Or you are using the "add library floders" option.

I never install Steam in any program files folders for just that reason. I put Steam in a folder all by itself OUTSIDE program files folders, and on a seperate drive if possible.

It says I can't install it on the root of my C drive so I just put it in program files x86

Your reply does not really explain what you are doing there or why you are doing it.

Steam makes its own game folders inside the steamapps/common folder. You don't need to do anything else.

Unless you are trying to use the "add library folders" option in your Steam settings.

Ok, listen. I try to install Operation Arrowhead, and it says where to install it. I press the C drive option, and then a list of my folders show up. It did not automatically create a folder for me.

It says the folder must be empty as well, that is why I tried creating my own folder.

Again, why are you doing that ? Just install it under your Steam directory.

For example, if you have Steam installed in its own folder on your C drive the path in the installation box after you click "install" from your library will look like this...

"Install under.."

C:\Steam

Sorry, I was being a bit of an idiot. All I had to do was create a Steam folder under C instead of puting it in program files. Thanks, by the way.

Well I was really confused as to what you were trying to do originally, as you "CAN" add a library folder if you NEED to (HDD is full and you need to install game on another HDD, for example) so that is why I was asking that question you see.

Thanks and good luck to you always unless you need more help on this.
