If you are connected directly to your modem by ethernet and not jumping through a router, then it could be that the modem needs to be reset. Also, if you recently upgraded to Windows 10, that maybe can affect this, as you may also need to check for supported and updated drivers for your hardware.

What is your operating system ?
hello, thanks for the reply, i have resetted my modem aswell, wont work either. i am still on windows 8.1. i thought i maybe should install windows 10. because it worked all fine untill today.. while i have not touched a single thing :/ i have also tried to do -tcp in the documents and all that. but nothing works. my firewall isnt stopping it either.

Do not upgrade to Windows 10 until you are sure that drivers exist for that computer that will support Windows 10.

Try this...

Boot your PC into safe mode WITH networking, and try to log into Steam that way. You can stay in that boot mode and come back here to post.

If the problem is software related, as in for example this list...

then that upgrade to Windows 10 will not solve anything, almost surely.
Use the internet to help you. You click start then type "msconfig" and click the result and then in the new window you click the boot tab and then safe boot. At the bottom, be sure to click that "network" box.

You are welcome...it is safe mode WITH networking, by the way. The network part is important and you will not even be able to connect to the internet unless you select "network" in that box.

The function keys are another way of doing this, but the way I suggested for you to do it is easier to explain here and more accurate from my knowledge.
I am in safe mode rn, but it still cant connect to the servers..

Also, you said that you have a new computer. Have you updated all the network (NIC and Wireless device) drivers on that computer, after downloading them from the manufacturer's website for Windows 8.1 ?

Then at this point, consider your NIC as maybe needing an updated driver or the NIC has actually failed....lastly, the modem may be still problem. See my post above about drivers for that NIC.

Post the exact model and manufacturer of the PC. Model number, also...exactly.
