Help when using Xbox controller as mouse
Hello I have a problem and I’m not sure how to search for the solution. I have a Xbox controller where it’s able to be use as a mouse input. I have my pc connect in the living room and mostly use the controller to click and launch games. Every once in a while there’s a game that needs the mouse input to hit start. Example Skyrim, fall out or ghost of Tsushima launching the game will bring up a seperate window where my controller stops work until I use the regular mouse to start the game. I think I remember being able to still use my controller in the past to hit the seperate start button but messed with settings a while back and now it doesn’t work? Is there a setting or am I out of luck?

It is best to use a mouse as the mouse. Video game controllers are not really mouse controllers. They can become wonky, as you found out from personal experience. I suggest if you can get a mouse, wired. There really cheap at walmart or office max. Even places like CVS or walgreens sell them too. Otherwise this issue will continue. As i said, video game controllers are not mouse controllers.

Do you remember it being RS = mouse movement or Xbox button + RS = mouse movement?

What is the window that opens? Something from Steam or those games' launcher?

An option for mouse control is to use the guide button chords.
Go to Steam > Settings > Controller > Guide Button Chord Layout > Edit > View Layout, and you'll see what the mouse controls are mapped to.
The Guide Button Chord layout is applied while the Xbox button is held.
Can be stuff to change if it doesn't work right off the bat.

There's also the Desktop Layout where you don't hold the Xbox button. This layout is applied when you're outside of an application Steam shows as running (looks like non-Steam games can have things a bit different though).

Maybe something was changed relating to one of those layouts.
