Another thread about this
Will insert my copy paste below
This would abused by people playing/buying games that they should not be playing.
These threads popup all the time and most commonly they want to hide the games from family members.
No reason for kids to be able to hide games from parents or family members they should not be playing. So people clearly benefit from not having this option.
I don't really see how parenting issues are Steam's problems...moreover, if you're a parent, you probably live with your child, and if they're somehow really playing games they shouldn't be, you don't need to view their games information through their profile, you could just make them show you their games library. There's no hiding that.
It's a good point but there are various ways to safeguard parents and children and still allow me to control my profile.
And about games that tell stories...
There are games that tell you about a story. And there are games about which a story could be told. And those are not the same thing.
There is a joke where I come from, how do you confuse someone? Stand three shovels against the wall and tell them to take their pick.
My profile is where I advertise who I am to the world. With RimWorld on it, my advert is ruined. You can say oh but this or oh but that, it will not change the fact.
That won awards for doing exactly that.
Oh I see, Rimworld is a rich gaming experience in the same way that Half Life is a rich gaming experience.? Hmmkay. What, ever.
And all this is supposed to encourage me to be happy with it on my gaming profile, how exactly? Exactly.
Just admit RimWorld's not your cup of tea and accept you made a bad purchase.
I want to hide the game to draw attention to my experience with it?
And that is why hiding games from your list is a bad idea?
I want to change the way Steam functions as a way of letting people know how much I hate it?
It's all very interesting, but I'd still rather just hide the thing from the list. I honestly doubt debating Rimworld is going to have much effect on either it or the people buying it.
I never said that. You asked for an example of a game that offer storytelling without words. I gave that - Half life.
"Good morning, and welcome to the Black Mesa transit system. This train is provided for the security and convenience of the Black Mesa personnel. The time is 8:47 AM. Current top side temperature is 98 degrees with an estimated high of 105. The Black Mesa compound is maintained at a pleasant 68 degrees at all times. This train is inbound for level 3 dormatories to sector C test labs and control facilities. If your intended destination is a high security area beyond sector C, you will need to return to the central transit hub in area 9 and board a high security train. If you have not yet submitted your identity to the retinal clearance system, you must report to Black Mesa personnel for processing before you will be permitted into the high security branch of the transit system...."
It goes on and on...
"Hey Mister Freeman. I had a bunch of messages for ya but we had a system crash about 20 minutes ago and I'm still tryna find my files. Just one of those days I guess. They were having some problems down in the test chamber too but I think that's all straightened out now. They told me to make sure you were headed down there as soon as you got into your hazard suit."
.....
Yeah, Half life. It was a great game for its time. And even though the dialogue was not minimal, it was remembered and praised for being in game, rather than freezing the control or cutting out to video scenes, the way most games do when the dialogue is running.
What I have written here is far, far beyond what there is in Rimworld, which amounts to, "You land, in a world of trouble..." And that's it.
Not much of a story when you compare it to Half Life. Is it.
Half Life is what we call an "immersive experience".
Rimworld is what we call, a "rip off".
Add to that... Rimworlds revenue makes Half Life look poor and under achieved.
It is a crock, and I do not want it displayed on my profile.
I mean, I don't even hate Starforge that much, and it actually was a ripoff...
I never said there was NO text. or voice.
Just that it DOES employ storytelling without these devices.
Again it won awards for this. I don't care what YOU claim you call the game. I'm talking about what it was awarded for OBJECTIVELY.
You're so depserate to make excuses aren't you?
The fact is there are MANY games that have done this.
Ever played Brothers: A tale of two sons? NO words in that at all and it tells a story. And that ALSO won awards for storytelling too.
Would you like more, or are you going to create ad hoc excuses to try and wriggle out of them again?
I cannot belittle its existence. And if you think Rimworld is a rich gaming experience, whether it belittles you or not, you have been fooled, or you have this twisted fascination. It is NOT a rich gaming experience. At all. Not even close.
Yes PLEASE, please, compare Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons to Rimworld.
And once again, it has dialogue from the get go. It has words and speech. You just don't know what those words are. It is a beautiful, masterfully crafted game. I haven't played it, but unless the gameplay is badly broken or unfulfilling, I am sure that is a fantastic game (probably not my style of thing but I am feeling it definitely). If it won awards, until I play it and find otherwise, I am sure it deserves them, if only for the artwork.
Rimworld...
