How do I control visibility of games in my list?
Hello, as you could see for now, I spent a couple of weeks with RimWorld always on in my computer.

I struggle to find games I like. The exact genre of RimWorld is missing in a void at the moment. I had watched a video of someone playing it and put it on my wishlist for ages then bought it and after playing it for a week straight I realised I had been conned, and I don't use that word lightly. RimWorld was kickstarted for a quarter of a million producing the basic vanilla version after 3 years. It still advertises itself as an AI storyteller. It has pulled in millions off this advertising line... But there is not one word of dialogue in this "AI storyteller" and the game itself is outclassed by the likes of Sim City 2000.

But I really want a game like this one looks in its adverts. So I kept fiddling around with mods and stuff convinced that there was really going to be a game here I liked. But they all turn out to be crap, worse that Windows Vista for attacking your system, all crap not working in some way, I REALLY dislike this game.

And now it is at the top of my list of games as my second most played (which it isn't even, I play games offline for days and they do not register game time on that list). That list has been public for like ten years and it is one of my favourite ways to find games, sometimes I go to a profile and look for a games list and find a treasure trove... So I really do not want to make my list private, while at the same time I really do not want to advertise this one particular game. I don't want people I interact with online to think I play this game, let alone be to blame for encouraging them to waste their money and time on it..

How can I hide it from my public games list without hiding all of the other hundreds of games at the same time?

Please use the search feature. There are tons of threads on this subject but on to my post.

Another thread about this

Will insert my copy paste below

This would abused by people playing/buying games that they should not be playing.

These threads popup all the time and most commonly they want to hide the games from family members.

No reason for kids to be able to hide games from parents or family members they should not be playing. So people clearly benefit from not having this option.

I don't really see how parenting issues are Steam's problems...moreover, if you're a parent, you probably live with your child, and if they're somehow really playing games they shouldn't be, you don't need to view their games information through their profile, you could just make them show you their games library. There's no hiding that.

It's a good point but there are various ways to safeguard parents and children and still allow me to control my profile.

And about games that tell stories...

There are games that tell you about a story. And there are games about which a story could be told. And those are not the same thing.

There is a joke where I come from, how do you confuse someone? Stand three shovels against the wall and tell them to take their pick.

My profile is where I advertise who I am to the world. With RimWorld on it, my advert is ruined. You can say oh but this or oh but that, it will not change the fact.

How on earth does not having any dialogue equate to no storytelling?

There are games that do this.

Oh please, go on then, tell us a story without any dialogue. Oh but it's about perspective. You just have to envisage the story in your mind is all, you just have to tell your self, "This is a tory I am being told..." And then you will be.

And to Ducks on Fire, go to your profile. On the right hand side there is a link that says "Games" along with the number of games you have. Click that. OMG they were all still there!! Who would have thunk it?

What do you even care if I can hide a game off my games list or not? Honestly, would you even notice..? No. Can you think of anything bad that would come of that functionality? No.
Easy, play Half Life.

That won awards for doing exactly that.

Oh I see, Rimworld is a rich gaming experience in the same way that Half Life is a rich gaming experience.? Hmmkay. What, ever.

And all this is supposed to encourage me to be happy with it on my gaming profile, how exactly? Exactly.

ITT: user who doesn't like game goes on tirade about being robbed and having to display badge of shame on profile.

Just admit RimWorld's not your cup of tea and accept you made a bad purchase.

Simply leaving a bad review for the game is too easy. We want others to know we hated it so much we changed the way Steam functions just to hide it. That's dedication.

I want to hide the game to draw attention to my experience with it?

And that is why hiding games from your list is a bad idea?

I want to change the way Steam functions as a way of letting people know how much I hate it?

It's all very interesting, but I'd still rather just hide the thing from the list. I honestly doubt debating Rimworld is going to have much effect on either it or the people buying it.

Nice strawman.

I never said that. You asked for an example of a game that offer storytelling without words. I gave that - Half life.

"Good morning, and welcome to the Black Mesa transit system. This train is provided for the security and convenience of the Black Mesa personnel. The time is 8:47 AM. Current top side temperature is 98 degrees with an estimated high of 105. The Black Mesa compound is maintained at a pleasant 68 degrees at all times. This train is inbound for level 3 dormatories to sector C test labs and control facilities. If your intended destination is a high security area beyond sector C, you will need to return to the central transit hub in area 9 and board a high security train. If you have not yet submitted your identity to the retinal clearance system, you must report to Black Mesa personnel for processing before you will be permitted into the high security branch of the transit system...."

It goes on and on...

"Hey Mister Freeman. I had a bunch of messages for ya but we had a system crash about 20 minutes ago and I'm still tryna find my files. Just one of those days I guess. They were having some problems down in the test chamber too but I think that's all straightened out now. They told me to make sure you were headed down there as soon as you got into your hazard suit."

.....

Yeah, Half life. It was a great game for its time. And even though the dialogue was not minimal, it was remembered and praised for being in game, rather than freezing the control or cutting out to video scenes, the way most games do when the dialogue is running.

What I have written here is far, far beyond what there is in Rimworld, which amounts to, "You land, in a world of trouble..." And that's it.

Not much of a story when you compare it to Half Life. Is it.

Half Life is what we call an "immersive experience".

Rimworld is what we call, a "rip off".

Add to that... Rimworlds revenue makes Half Life look poor and under achieved.

It is a crock, and I do not want it displayed on my profile.
Man, imagine hating a priduct so much that you not only want to completely forget about it, but want to belittle it's very existence and anyone who happens to enjoy it.

I mean, I don't even hate Starforge that much, and it actually was a ripoff...

I never said there was NO text. or voice.

Just that it DOES employ storytelling without these devices.

Again it won awards for this. I don't care what YOU claim you call the game. I'm talking about what it was awarded for OBJECTIVELY.

You're so depserate to make excuses aren't you?

The fact is there are MANY games that have done this.

Ever played Brothers: A tale of two sons? NO words in that at all and it tells a story. And that ALSO won awards for storytelling too.

Would you like more, or are you going to create ad hoc excuses to try and wriggle out of them again?

I cannot belittle its existence. And if you think Rimworld is a rich gaming experience, whether it belittles you or not, you have been fooled, or you have this twisted fascination. It is NOT a rich gaming experience. At all. Not even close.

Yes PLEASE, please, compare Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons to Rimworld.

And once again, it has dialogue from the get go. It has words and speech. You just don't know what those words are. It is a beautiful, masterfully crafted game. I haven't played it, but unless the gameplay is badly broken or unfulfilling, I am sure that is a fantastic game (probably not my style of thing but I am feeling it definitely). If it won awards, until I play it and find otherwise, I am sure it deserves them, if only for the artwork.

Rimworld...
