Black Mesa Trojan ??
I purchased and installed Black Mesa last night and today I have gotten an alert/threat named 'cerberus" that was purged from D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\downloading\362890\bms.exe. As Black Mesa was the only item I installed last night I assume that was the possible vector.

Its either a false alert or it was already on your pc
Look in the Black mesa forum to see if anyone else has the alert

False positives happen. Games download through steam don't contain viruses. What AV flagged it?

Most likely a false positive.

From the last update notes:
"Known Issues
Anti-virus can sometimes flag the game as malicious even though it is not (we’ll see what we can do about this)"

Easy to check.

Games downloaded from Valve aren't going to have viruses because you'd see these forums light up instantly. Also they'd be sued heavily.

What you do is go to your Antivirus suite and check on the file being addressed. If it's something just realted to the game in the steam folder, it's a false positive. It happens.

You need to remember how these things work. Antivirus suites check for strings of data that have bits that are known in viruses. It's a bit like looking for swearwords in text. Some things may falsely trip it, for example, if you're checking for swear words about lady parts then seeing the town in Yorkshire, Scunthorpe may trigger it.

So, if it's like that, it's a false positive and you simply make exception.
