blue screen but not BSOD
Every time I try open one game on steam (atm it's only steam games that is doing that), it just starts normally then a few secconds later it turns into a blue screen, but isn't the death one from the pc itself, I already did all the updates, removed them too, did a reset and nothing, idk what to do for it to stop.
You can see what is my problem here: https://youtube.com/shorts/Qto8JbmexLg?feature=share

cpu hardware problem

And what you encounter is exactly BSOD

Only bsod will cause blue screen
Always start with SFC Scan Tool:

Windows Key + X + A (Windows 10 - PowerShell Admin)

Windows Key + X < Windows Terminal Admin (Windows 11)

sfc /scannow

You can check the event viewer to see what dll is causing the crash

I already did that and no problem found

Yeah, it's not a BSOD. The Windows shell is basically an Explorer.exe process, and it has crashed. If you bring up task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del > Task Manager), click Run New Task and type explorer.exe <enter>, it should bring your taskbar and desktop back.

So the question is: Why is that one game crashing all running explorer.exe processes?

I'm afraid I don't know the answer.

the problem is this

1) OP never provide any of his CPU Specs at all

thus as a result

no one here can give a proper answer and solutions to his problem.

--------------------------------------------------

also, kindly take note that Steam Platform no longer support Windows 7 at all.

if OP is using Windows 7, then the problem lies with it since he never upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11.

You are aware that on some systems, especially if the Windows build is in fact 10 and from before the major 2020/21 update that could be one issue, but I found that on some systems, like mine, one of these recent Windows Updates has broken the permissions of Windows Shell Experience Host.

There is another issue that is causing BSoD on some systems pertaining Windows Framework which was remedied two weeks ago with Windows Update.

Seemingly, if OP is running Win10, I suspect it is the permissions of the Windows Shell but it goes without saying OP should also run DISM in PowerShell/Terminal (Admin):

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

It's very clear from the video posted that launching the game is crashing the shell (explorer.exe). It is absolutely not a BSOD. It is the taskbar, wallpaper and desktop icons disappearing because explorer.exe has gone boom.

That's why I suggested using task manager to (Ctrl+Alt+Delete > Task Manager > Run New Task) to launch explorer.exe. They will see for themselves that will bring the taskbar, wallpaper and desktop icons back.

Assuming this is only happening with Hollow Knight and no mods are being used, then this is a Hollow Knight issue. In which case, here are some useful resources for further help:

* Steam's Hollow Knight support forum.
* Hollow Knight subreddit.
* The developer's twitter account.

Good luck. 👍

If true then SFC and DISM would fix the issue unless it is what I found on my system with the Shell Host all corrupted - fixed manually but was a PITA.

I agree, they are very helpful suggestions and definitely worth trying. 🙂

wait a min

what are the programs is OP running other than "hollow knight" at the same time??????

did OP try to replicate the problem by just "opening steam and Hollow Knight" only???????

did OP suffer from the same problem he is having by going to Windows Safe Mode??????

------------------------------------------------------

OP should provide the "events viewer" here

like what this person here did
