Permanently unable to send friend invites now? "Sending too many"?
Almost a week ago, I sent out 4 simple friend invites. These were people I met on Phasmophobia and wanted to keep playing with. Then a day or two after that, I tried to add someone else, but it said "It looks like you're sending too many invites, please wait a while to prevent spam" or some bullcrap. It's been almost a week now, and I STILL can't send a single invite. What the hell? Is me spending money on games and playing them every day not enough for Steam to realize I'm not a damn bot? Let me add people ffs. Why has it not gone away in a WEEK? I even have my phone number added to my account for security and yet that's not enough either I guess.

This restriction can last from 1 week to a month from the last time you saw the message.

Nothing is broken. You are not going to like the answer...

Stop sending requests. Everytime you do, it resets the cooldown.

The cooldown varies from 1 week up to 1 month "from the last time you saw the error message." Key point in quotes. This means if you saw the message today, you have to wait a full month before you can send another. Have them add you instead.

Read this post that explains a little bit of the new restriction...

After 30 send you have to wait a week before you can send more.
If you still cant send a friend request after 6 weeks like you described, you should contact Steam Support.
There is clearly something wrong there.

Did do so, apologies for forgetting to mention. This is what they replied with before closing the ticket abrubtly:

The duration is different for each user and can last 1 week or up to 1 month from the last time you saw the message. Please note, Steam Support is also unable to remove or modify this limit.

We don't have any further information in regards to this limit but if you would like to share your thoughts or suggestions regarding it, we encourage you to share it in the Steam Discussions as this forum is regularly read by the Valve Development team.

Since there's not much more that we can say or do for this, I am going to go ahead and close this help request.

If you have any other unrelated questions or issues, please create a new one and we will be happy to assist you.

The cooldown has many variables for when the account gets this message. No 1 account is the same in this matter. Some will get it after 1 invite, others 30.

Steam support isn't best for clarity. This is more common for VAC/Game banned accounts, because steam/valve LIMITS™ adding friends for limited accounts -- ban hammered accounts can only add one or two (few) friends independently trough LONG period of time while unrestricted accounts can always add you but not opposite.

As stated in the other thread you dug up...

Bans = lowered trust, just like limited accounts, yes.

It isn't illegal for Valve to keep the community as safe from malicious actors as they can.
