Why is google maps short urls blocked?

For example, if I post this URL:
https://www.google.se/maps/place/Anders+Personsgatan+19,+416+48+G%C3%B6teborg/@57.7101065,11.9942609,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x464ff38027790241:0x61cbbd6c7ccde725?hl=sv

it works.
But if I post the shorturl, that is obtained by checking the checkbox "Short link", so it becomes:
https://g_oo.gl/maps/ZDp78
(without the underscore)
it becomes:
https://goo.gl/maps/ZDp78

Why this block? Maps is not "dangerous"?

That doesnt have anything to do with maps

Its a URL shortener which just happens to have some Google integration. But functionally its still a URL shortener

I checked now. The google url shorterner is:

http://go_o.gl/UjkhpE
(erxample of www.steampowered.com)

As you see, its not part of the /maps/ namespace.
So a good idea could be to whitelist all shorturls that belong to google services

Yeah, if they whitelist one version of the URL, whitelisting another version of the same thing should be ok.

On the other hand, you don't need to shorten links. Keep in mind that you can ALWAYS make links display whatever text you want to -- I hardly ever make links display themselves.

Difference being you know clearly where you're going on the first link, but it's impossible to know where the other leads to.
URL shorteners have been used to all kinds of abuse by phishers and spammers.

The second link you clearly see what it goes too, it in the /maps/ namespace, thus its a safe link, you know its a Google Maps link.

Unfortunately the filter can only filter by domain name. It can't exclude the /maps/ part of a link or only filter if a specific part isn't included.

A URL shortened can be used to disguise phishing pages. And since too many Steam users need a nanny, Steam sorta nannies them.
