Getting A Refund For Battlefield 2
So I happened to buy Battlefield 2 yesterday, almost the same day as its servers went offline. No support now except through 3rd party programs, and the store page DID NOT reflect this at the time. Would Steam give a refund in this case?

Never hurts to ask.

While there is a no refund policy, they have been known to make exception.
This has been on the store page for a good while:
INTERNET CONNECTION, ONLINE AUTHENTICATION AND ACCEPTANCE OF END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT REQUIRED TO PLAY. TO ACCESS ONLINE FEATURES, YOU MUST REGISTER ONLINE. ONLY ONE REGISTRATION IS AVAILABLE PER GAME. EA ONLINE TERMS & CONDITIONS AND FEATURE UPDATES CAN BE FOUND AT WWW.EA.COM. YOU MUST BE 13+ TO REGISTER WITH EA ONLINE. EA MAY RETIRE ONLINE FEATURES AFTER 30 DAYS NOTICE POSTED ON WWW.EA.COM.

But like SoT said it can't hurt to ask.
Such information is never mentioned by retailers to begin with, let alone on (almost) the same day!

Sacred 2's servers; for instance, have been removed for years, yet there's still no warning on its page.

Frankly, if I were in your shoes, I'd want a refund too; but the Store Page thingie simply isn't a valid argument.

Ask for a refund—but don't blame them.

Read terms and service before you buy games... they clearly state they reserve the right to terminate the service at any time.

Yeah, it was my fault for not double-checking the status of the servers. I'm hoping the unfortunate timing will be enough to convince them. I did buy the game less than 24 hours ago.

That's not neccesarily always the case. Take F.E.A.R. for example. http://store.steampowered.com/app/21090/

Also, according to EA's site it was planned to be shutdown on the 30th of June but I don't know if that was the case: http://www.ea.com/1/service-updates

Given the age of the game it should have been evident that the servers would be a ghost town at best, and non-existant at worst, so I wouldn't count on a refund. Apparently everybody gets one "customer service" refund, but if this is indeed true I wouldn't waste it on a low-cost, almost 10 year old game like this.
If it said, multiplayer, and that game doesnt have a single player right?, you bought a non functioning thing.
So ask for a refund.
