Why do you ask? Please elaborate. That video is brand new, so i wanted people to see it. Also, it does not hurt to post scams people use all the time, as you can see people always falling for scams on here due to the amount of posts on here. So any help i can provide to game players on steam i want to help them. I could not post the last 2 days as i was very sick in real life. Due to my disability, i have severe health issues alot of times that make me unable to do anything.
And such PSAs don't work as the average Steam user that needs it, doesn't visit Discussions. Usually only AFTER it happened.
Just like the thousands of PSAs about common phishing scams. They don't work either. We still get several threads per day from users who fell for the most basic scams.
I still hope to help someone. Even if it is late, this scam will continue in the future. If you watch the video i linked above, this guy is very good at explaining the long term effect of the scam. It may be old, but the scam is still on going. Please watch the linked full video on top post. Thank you.
As i said, i am sick in real life, so i post what i know. I am sure it will help someone, maybe in the future. I have done this before, and even helped a couple people who friended me. In fact i am helping a person right now talking to me about it. So it does help people, but it might not be as prevalent as you thin. My evidence is that it does help people. As i said, im taking privately right now to someone i am helpng them. They friended me after i posted this and am explaining about this scam.
Jut because you don't see a response on here does not mean it is not helping people Cathulhu. Also, by denying the scam, you are enabling the scammer to have power. As information is power.
Also, could you link the other posts about it? I would like to read them too. Thank you. After all, information is power, and i want to learn more info about this particular scam that i might not know.
"Brand new video" doesn't mean it's new method nor recent.
The issue that this is bound to happen on any store that allows self service listing, and management. What can happen is either dev get phished, or had their system compromised, or dev want to be scammer/troll problem.
Steam had took action same day when it happens as well force refund those that bought said game with message explaining to the user why it was refunded.
This isn't first, nor last, even in the past where greenlight was a thing it happen during that time too where if game get approved by users voting it in, dev switch's the name to something else hence the problem. Best people can do is report the issue, and inform their friends if they were affected.
Now PSA is nice, the issue it doesn't work how one think it does, handful of people may read this, but most won't, or think it can't happen to them whatever their excuse may be thinking it impossible to happen to them. Proven point like you said seeing all posts everyday someone losing their account to same repeating scam from discord, or etc, and just that but community countlessly provide PSA, and methods to recovery of accounts stolen, and yet it happens regardless over & over.
I honsetly have not found any fake games recently. But if you want a more active role on steam about things like this, check out the forum group SENTINELS OF THE STORE. They have more information like this. You can check them out here:
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/Sentinels_of_the_Store
There a very good group and they help keep fake stuff and fake reviews off the steam store. If you really are interested in this kinda stuff BoxingBud, please check them out.
Looks like the bannana game might be fake though. Someone reported about it on the group:
https://steamcommunity.com/groups/Sentinels_of_the_Store/discussions/0/4415298185448102685/
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1989180/The_World_of_a_Mermaid/
This could be considered a fake game type. Who knows what it is doing in the background? Might be cryptomining or doing bad things on your pc. You need to do your reasearch on these kind of things yourself BoxingBud. I cannot report all the time. I am only one person.
NOTE: This info is from the sentinels of the stores group forum. This information was found on there.
I'm not sure why the first few guys were so rude to you. Any and all help is nice to have.
