nvidia control panel
set "high performance gpu" in global settings

and still, do a fresh and clean install of your OS WITHOUT norton ..
That's a laptop thing, not applicable to desktop computers.
I do agree about Norton though. It's pretty much the worst you can get.

getting ready to post that I donot see that option in global settings.
Solved: Changed the PhysX setting from auto-select to the video card and rebooted!
game loaded normally. I will update again if this was just an anomoly.
thanks for all the input, I knew I would get pointed in the right direction. :pleased:

That is slightly unexpected. Was there anything that implied PhysX being the issue? I'd also generally expect the auto-select to use the GPU by default. It's not a setting I've really had to fuss over in recent memory.

I knew it was a matter of just a setting, it was where!
Hogwarts loaded normally and now lords of the fallen! I would'nt have thought it either but it made the difference. :steamhappy:

Indeed unexpected. Considering the games listed do not even use PhysX as far as i know, i'm confused.
I wonder if that setting actually did something or if the reboot in itself fixed it. Could have been a driver with a hiccup.

caused by norton rootkit trojan virus backdoor malware ransomware incompatibility

I recommend to reinstall the driver (cleanly, latest version)
This is very odd. Whether it picks 'use' or 'not use', shouldn't matter. PhysX requires 256MB VRAM on a card, so for whatever reason it doesn't detect any VRAM when it tries turning it on (which I assume it is what it is doing).

The only explanation I can think of is that the driver isn't good. Something went wrong during install 'or' the BIOS of the motherboard needs an update, which is also possible.

I don't pretending 'nothing is wrong as it just works now' is a good idea. This could give more problems in the future. Try to get to the root of it despite you now capable of playing normally.

That is a very good point, I will do a clean install on the video driver now! thanks
Edit:just happens that there is a new driver released today!
