Steam has been updated to show which games work well with each controller natively.
An option to narrow by controller support has been added to the Search page.

The Advanced Filtering located next to the search box in your Library has added each controller type to the Hardware Support section to see what games in your library support each controller.
There was a news post recently about the added DualSense and DualShock awareness and all the ways it's been added.

So if I actually want to be able to understand buttom prompts as much as possible I probably should stick to an Xbox Controller? Bummer
Well I mean... Xbox is owned by Microsoft who owns Windows. Seems like a pretty obvious business choice. I was mostly asking if most games were designed to be able to change their button prompts. I also have a switch pro controller which seems just as useless as the PS4 controller for PC gaming.
Prey 2017 (Arkane Studios) is one such game where the correct prompts are shown for the controller connected (PS or Xbox).
I've used loads of different controllers as I've used different consoles in 35+ years of gaming. The button prompts simply get automatically substituted in my head since I'm used to it. I have zero issue seeing Xbox prompts and pressing the correct button on my PS4 controller.
To me controllers that are not Xbox are anything but useless on PC gaming.
To be fair it's not really difficult (unless you have problems such as dyslexia).
A is X, X is Square, Y is triangle and B is circle. If you use both it should be pretty second nature anyway.
But yeah a lot of games do automatically change the promopt if they recognise the controller and have been coded adequately.
The only one thing I would add is that personally I'd stick with Xbox anyway if you find it comfortable to use as it tends to work easiest with the PC as it's rather buitl that way. Sometimes the PS controllers can randomyl just stop working - you'll see quite a few posts on these forums from time to time with people having this issue.
While I prefer, comfort wise, PS controlelrs, I usually just stick to Xbox on PC for this reason.
