Family share save showing other persons save?
I'm using family share to play a few games I don't own, but my problem is now everytime I open up the game, it shows the save files of the person who shared the game with me instead of mine. Its done this with a few other games, so I know that the game I'm playing isn't the issue. Are my saves gone? And how do I turn this off? I'd really love to play games using my own saves without fear of messing up the other persons saves.

If you're playing on the same computer, this can happen if saves are stored locally. It depends on the way the developer set things up.

Would deleting the saves also delete them on the other persons account then? I just find it weird how theres been a few instances where games give me a brand new save for me, seperate from the other person, but then loading it up the next time shows the other persons save. I can't find my save in the files either, only theirs. Is there no way to have my own saves for games that save locally when someone elses saves are present on the same device?

Let me ask you this.

Say you download a picture of a snake wearing a tophat.

The person you're sharing a computer with decides to delete the picture.

Do you think that picture will still be deleted when you use the computer next?

Yes, deleting files will delete them regardless of who is sitting in the chair.

Use separate accounts. Most games "nowadays" separate saves by account.

They are using Family sharing, which implies different Steam accounts to me.

Different user accounts on the computer could work though. although it'd be a good idea to have your games downloaded to a common place accessible by both accounts in that case.

I forgot to mention that the person has a different device aswell as the one I use, my bad. The same saves that are on this computer are also present on that device through cloud saves. Would it delete their save thats saved through cloud saving, or just on this computer? Will opening the same game on this computer again through their account delete their saves that are on cloud saving? Since cloud saving always saves from the most recent session, but if theres no saves anymore it would get rid of it.

If the cloud saves are syncing, let me ask you this.

You upload that snake picture to a cloud service.

The other person deletes it from the cloud service.

Do you think it will still be deleted when you check the cloud for the file, or do you think the fact that you're the one in the chair makes a difference?

Then is there any other way to fix this? I'd really love to have my own saves back without fear of messing up any of their saves. If there's no way to get my saves back then I'd at least just want a way to have my own seperate saves.

Have you tried asking in the hub for whatever game you're experiencing this issue with?

The issue is I'm experiencing this for multiple games.

And what did they say in the hubs for those games? Remember what you were told before about each game working however the developer designed it to work.

Nothing, because I haven't posted anything in those hubs. I've already said that this happens on multiple games, and it'd be a hassle to go through asking in every hub for each of these games, which have a mostly dead playerbase. None of this still explains how I had my own unique save at some point, before it was seemingly replaced by the other persons save, even though they hadn't opened the game on this computer since the first time I played, nor does it answer some of my initial questions.

Did you find a way to fix this ? I have the same problem and don't really know what to do.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
