How do I see the download size of a game I do not own?
I have both desktop and website version of steam but I can't seem to find the download size of an unpurchased game. Thanks in advance!

Alright, this might be a tad far-fetched solution, but you can use SteamDB's depot database to check for the game size in original + content patches. I suppose when there's no recommended minimum requirements and you don't own the game yet, that's better than nothing.

Here's an example of DOTA: https://steamdb.info/app/570/depots/

Mine weights 50 GB, according to Steam DB depots it's... roughly around that, if you omit language translations and workshop tools.

You ask in the corresponding forum.

You can also see an estimate on the store page, but how accurate that is will depend on the dev.

Store site only shows final install size which can differ drastically from actual download size because of compression.

Eh, just Google it.
For example, I don't own this game yet.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/814380/Sekiro_Shadows_Die_Twice__GOTY_Edition/

In the system requirements, it says you need 25 GB, but this can sometimes become out of date when they don't update this information after doing several game updates, so Google tells me from more than one source:

12.6GB download. 15.5 GB after it's unpacked.

You want to keep in mind though how Steam handles downloading and unpacking. It will download 12.6 GB of compressed files, then extract those to a total of 15.5 GB before then deleting the original 12.6 GB. Therefore the end result is 15.5 GB of drive space used, but during the whole process you'll need 28.1 GB to actually install it, even though it won't be using that much in the end.

Really though for optimal drive performance you shouldn't fill your drives up all the way. You want to leave some wiggle room for bits to get shuffled around. Leaving about 15% of the total available is usually recommended.

so Google tells me from more than one source:
Can you provide some specific sources? I can't seem to find any for TABS (Totally Acurate Battle Simulator). The closest thing I can find (that isn't a sketchy "free" download/emulator site) is a Nintendo store page saying it is 8 gigabytes, but it is a different version of the game for Nintendo hardware.

You ask in the corresponding forum.
Are you saying I shouldn't have posted this in "help and tips" or are you saying I should ask for the download size in a forum related to the game I am asking about?

You ask in the corresponding forum as the people there are more likely to know such details about any game in question.

Example - you want to know how big Doom is. You go to that forum and ask.
You want to know how big BeamNG is. You go that forum and ask.

You can find each game's forum simply by going to the game in your library. Look at the green PLAY button, and immediately underneath you'll see a list of words. Click on "discussions"

Or, in this case of a game you do not own, just go Community -> Discussions | Game Forums and search for it by name.

That's the thing. I can't go to that forum and ask because I don't own the game

Please see my "Or (...)". As far as I've read here all games have at least one forum open to anyone, including non-owners.

Okay, I went to the desired game's discussion forum and nobody is saying the download size of the game, only issues they have with hardware etc. which most people use steam discussions for anyway
Yujah 4 ENE 2024 a las 6:52 p. m.
Well, sure, but you can supposedly just ask there, exactly as you did here.
