It's a secure feature that works well, but people who cry as you do about it, often make silly mistakes and GIVE their details away by going to gambling sites, or clicking on malicious links in discord or other places.
So what you're doing in those cases is the same as having a REALLY strong thick iron door on your house with a massive series of locks.
That'd keep out anyone, expcet when you then put a note on the door saying "keys under the mat" then it might as well be made of paper.
YOu see the point?
If you are letting people in, YOU did that.
So change your ways.
Never enter your login details on an insecure device.
Would you use one to do internet banking? Because I certainly wouldn't.
No that's not how it works.
If it was sold the next day then you were comprmosied LONG before this most likely.
You still don't understand how it works and you DID give your access away. Regardless of when it happened, Valve's system does not cover this, nor can they reinstate your items.
All you can do is understand HOW to avoid it in future.
How does a scammer have access to an account? because the end user gave away all their account details. The account name, the password and the KEY to the door, the Steam Guard Mobile code giving them access to your account.
How? by either logging into a known scam site or sites, tailored malware on their PC or another PC, the vote for my team scam, you have a pending ban scam on discord, free knife click the link etc.
How does Steam (a program) know it is not you when all the account details are correct? It doesn't.
The alternative is not plausible:
1) Someone would have to "GUESS" your account name from "millions of possible combinations".
2) Next they would have to "GUESS" your password from "millions of possible combinations" and then match it to your account name with "millions of possible combinations".
3) And finally they would have to "GUESS" the Steam Guard Mobile code "which changes every 30 seconds" to match both your account name and password to then have access your account.
And finally: https://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement
C. Your Account (snipped)
You may not reveal, share or otherwise allow others to use your password or Account except as otherwise specifically authorized by Valve. You are responsible for the confidentiality of your login and password and for the security of your computer system. Valve is not responsible for the use of your password and Account or for all of the communication and activity on Steam that results from use of your login name and password by you, or by any person to whom you may have intentionally or by negligence disclosed your login and/or password in violation of this confidentiality provision. Unless it results from Valve’s negligence or fault, Valve is not responsible for the use of your Account by a person who fraudulently used your login and password without your permission.
You did something you should not have done else your items would not have been stolen.
As said before, the security is fine, but it can't fix user-errors.
Yes you did.
Your items were stolen because your account was compromised. It was compromised because you logged into a phishing website.
Note that internet cafes in china are fairly ubiquitious and are pretty common throughout south east asia. These places tend to be locked down hard with regards to what you can or cannot run on them. They have a vested interest in not allowing this otherwise no one would go to them.
Its also why the steam hardware survey gets skewed every once and awhile, due to Chinese internet cafes constantly doing system wipes as part of their maintenance.
