[RESOLVED]"DOOM Closed Beta" Randomly Appeared in my Steam Library
[Read posts #3 and #7]

So, I was just sitting there, then i go to my steam library, and I see DOOM Closed Beta in my Steam games list. I installed it, thinking I was maybe somehow randomly selected for something for once in my life.

When I try to run it i get a message popup saying "Failed to start game. (Unknown error)".

I've searched the Steam support site for something like this happening, but have found nothing to help me.

So, was this some mistake or something? I never signed up to be in any beta or anything for any game.

IDK if this will help, but I recently submitted a request to refund a game and the refund was accepted.

So, what do i do?

I got the DOOM Closed Beta too. But I am still downloading the game right now. I will let you know if I am able to play the game. I haven't signed up for any beta neither.

First thing to try usually is this...exactly as suggested depending on your OS, as in "run as admin" for Steam...

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

Also, post your OS, including if 32 or 64 bit.

Perhaps you can find answers here:

I already tried the the stuff on that page. I'm using Windows 10 64-bit. I tried playing it in compatibility mode for all the versions of windows listed and tried running the game exe itself as an administrator as well.

Looks like you have the OS covered then, here are the minimum specs...

Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
Intel Core i5-2400 or better / AMD FX-8320 or better
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 (2GB) or better / AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2GB) or better
Up to 22GB HDD space
Steam account
Broadband internet connection

What about the other specs ?

Please note that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti, and mobile GPUs are not supported for the DOOM Beta. Please check back later for minimum or recommended system specs for the final game

EDIT..Oopps...Looks like the good Silicon solved this one...LOL

:cfacepalm:

the beta is not even for a couple days yet... why do you think the game would start now?

I knew nothing about this game, let alone when the beta starts.

Although, after reading the link posted by Silicon i saw that it says people who ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order digitally would have access, which i did, so I guess i got lucky. Anyways, thanks for the help.

I thought that might be the situation in your case. I'm just surprised these other folks didn't pick up on it much sooner. They are getting lax...

I get the same thing, failed to start unknown error. Win 10 w/GTX 960 and AMD A6. Does my apu meet specs?
Commander Ceph Mar 29, 2016 @ 5:05pm
Silicon said, it's because the beta hasn't started yet.

There are different versons of the A6 so we need more info if we can answer that question.

You need to post the exact model of the CPU.

The Doom closed beta doesn't start until the 31st and runs to (I think) the 3rd of April. It's only available for those who preordered Wolfenstein The New Order.

Edit: I spose this has already been said, woops!

According to this site I use,

http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-FX-8320-vs-AMD-A6-6400K-APU/1983vsm3048

The best A6 is below the minimum FX processor listed in the minimum requirements from the Beta page linked above by the good Silicon.

So even if you, zamkin, have the best A6, it looks under minimum specs for the game.
