I lost my game saves in Far Cry 3
When playing the game I died and the loading screen came up, but it was unusally long, so I closed the game. (I realise this was probably pretty stupid.) I start the game again, but I realize my game saves are lost. I've been looking online for solutions, but nothing helps me. People mention changing the number 46 to 48 in the Orbit file, but the Orbit file doesn't exist in my computer. I don't want to start again and this happen again, so help would be very much appreciated!

Try going to the folder where Far Cry 3 puts its saves, right-click on it, and choose "Properties". In the new window, go to the "Previous versions" tab. See if you can find an earlier version of the folder, might still have the saves.
There aren't any previous versions available.

Since it appears the saves corrupted, and there are no previous versions, if you cannot sync your progress via Steam cloud, I think you will be stuck starting over.
Just to make sure I didn't look in the right place where Far Cry puts its saves, where would that file be?

Geezus. All that crafting and radio tower liberation gone...crap.
I did discover a save 5 where the save files might be, but how do I restore those files in my game?

Sorry for the slow response. PC Gaming Wiki was giving me an error. The game saves its files in:
<Uplay-folder>\savegames\<user-id>\46\

If you have managed to find a previous save, you would want to put it there.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\[Uplay info number]\46

That is where the save files are on my FC3 I think. Copy that save and make a backup just in case before you move it there so if you make a mistake or something happens, then you have a backup.

EDIT..Ninja'd by the good habitualaction

I found the save in the document 46, its titled 5.save. I can't move it to the 46 file since it is already there.

So if that is where it is, what is going on when you try to play the game and load that save ?
The game only displays my first save instead of the rest.

We cannot know what save progress in your game that save file represents. One way to tell is to fully exit the game and Steam and go back to that location and drag that save to say your desktop temporarily, leaving the savegames folder empty. Launch Steam and FC3 again and see if you have no saves at all then. That will confirm you are in the right place and if you don't have any other saves, then it sounds like you maybe have to start over or drag that save or saves back into the folder in a reverse process.
I moved the files out of the savegames folder, loaded Far Cry 3 and my save wasn't there, then I put them back in the savegames folder, but I still only get the first save in Far Cry 3.

If that save file is the only one you have on your PC, and from what you just posted above, it sounds like you have to start from the progress of that save then.

I assume you have searched your PC for other saves ? This should maybe be in the game forum since you can play the game ok but just have save file issues.
I would very much not like to start from my first save if possible. I searched in the savegames and a folder called 437 had a couple other saves and I moved them to the folder 46, then loaded Far Cry, but nothing happened.
