So what does "Blocking" someone do anyways?
You often can't post to a person's profile without being blocked, and you can't private message them unless your a friend.

I was wondering if maybe they didn't see you posts, but I think someone who allegedly bloked me did respond to my one my posts...

So what do "Blocking" do anyways?

It does seem like it does very much.

So, again, what do "Blocking" do? I'm guessing not much, but wondering.

BTW... a least one other game does make it some that you don't see any "world messages" by someone if you block them. It could be easily abused because if Fred blocked Sam, Fred could shout out: "I know Sam is a total cheater and watch... Sam won't even try to deny it because he know's it true!" Obviously, that could be bannable on Steam, but clearly an example of how preventing yourself from not seeing someone else's message might not be great, as there ar obviously more subtle less bannable ways that could go south even unintentional.

Blocking doesn't prevent them from posting on the forums.

They still see your posts but you don't see theirs, unless you click View Post.

Prevents you from sending them friend invites, and prevents you from commenting on content they may have made public such as screenshots.

It helps you to stop engaging with them by not seeing their posts.

Let's face it, we all still click to read posts by blocked users, don't we? :tgrin:

Not if you are on a browser, and just straight up block the element from showing up to begin with.

Blocking another player on Steam will prevent them from interacting with you in the following ways:

  • Sending you friend or group invites
  • Sending messages to you through Steam chat
  • Commenting on your profile or community items that you've created

Our local Judge is an idiot, the official word is "Mentally Disabled", although I'm still trying to prove it to the court system to the State.

Every time someone comes before him seeking a Temporary Restraining Order regarding social media, he tells them to just block or ignore the person and to go away.

Admittedly, that's not the type of idiotic ruling I've come to expect from him, but I suspect that's
because it's something some 5 year old kid or whatever explained to him when he couldn't
figure it out for himself.

Yep, this is the way.

I made these filters for Ublock Origin a while ago and they serve me well. I keep incorrectly assuming some blocked users are no longer active because it's been so long since I saw them.

! Delete blocked user posts on forum index pages steamcommunity.com##div:has(> div.forum_topic_name.op_hidden) ! Delete blocked user posts from thread pages steamcommunity.com##div:has(> span.commentthread_deleted_comment_audit)

It doesn't stop quotes of course, but that isn't as problematic as I thought it would be.
