Do you get banned for performance mods in Elden Ring multiplayer?

I want to play Elden Ring with friends but I dont know whether to use performance mods or not. Can you get banned for that? I found multiple answers online and Im not sure which one I should trust

Elden Ring uses EAC so if you use anything the modifies the game's files you run the risk of getting banned.

For what it's worth, for Elden Ring, you should always play in offline mode.
I'm not sure how EAC works for the in game detection in Elden Ring. But alright.

As someone said above, off-line mode is your friend.

To disable EAC and make sure the game is in off-line mode, before playing with any mods.
