Why I can't ask a question about a game if I don't own it?
Hi!

I just wanted to ask about Elder Scrolls Online from the community but I cannot do so because I do not own the game. And Steam forums don't have that game listed... so I'm stuck.

So how/ where to get my answers from the community? :)

I might be mistaken, but isn't the official ESO forums locked as well for game owners (if I heard correctly)?

There's also the ESO sub-reddit, it has an active following there.

You get what you pay for.

Surely your question has already been both asked and answered by another Steam user.

Fortunately, you do have the search function at your disposal.

True, but ESO is a huge game that gets frequent updates and has already changed quite an lot from release; there may still be questions not yet asked though.

What question do you have? I should be able to help. I've played the game for 4+ months and have VR12 and VR3 characters.

This is true. You must have an active subscription to post on the ESO forums.

There is Reddit and there is also Tamriel Foundry (http://tamrielfoundry.com/forums/)

Both communities are better than the ESO forums anyways. It's really unfortunate that a company would lock down forums (Steam game forum) on a third party site. ZOS would probably lock down Reddit too if they had that power.

Some forums on Steam is swamped with trolls, those forums occasionally is set to "owner write only", I do not know if that's the case with ESO, but I suspect it is, last time I was looking in that forum, there were a lot trolls/spam/flamebait going on.

Sadly enough, those "creatures" ruin it for everyone else.

That is unfortunate, and I do understand that Zenimax wants to protect their expensive new product, but this is taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut. It hurts the genuinely non-trollish, like the OP (I assume).

A subscription you mean? Because "sub" can mean different things.

So could "subscription" if you want to be a pain about it.

Hey, that's Bethesda's policy. If you don't like it, don't buy the game.

Bethesda Softworks and Zenimax Online you mean.

As mentioned before, it's an poor policy, no one was making pointed demands that they change it. In any case, your suggestion was unhelpful.

Vote with your wallet. The best thing you can do as a customer is not to give your money to companies with policies you don't like.
