Slow Download (Only in Steam)
Hi Community,

since month my Steam Download rate is between 13,1 and 13,6 mbit/s. To change the server region does not change anything.
The problem still exists on my new Computer (something I really didnt accepted).

Speedtest says, i have a downloadrate from above 100mbit/s.

What I already tried to fasten up my downloads:

- Clear the download cache
- Change the download server
- Use a new Router

Best,

Pilence

How new is your computer?

And before you wonder, yes that is relevant.
If it has a main drive, SSD, directly connected to PCI Express 4.0, then it can be fixed with a single action.

At any rate, please tell people what kind of system you're using.

Are you sure, that your Steam download is listed in Megabit and not MegaBYTE (which is the default setting, unless you have changed it)?
I know, stupid question, but let's be safe about it.
You likely need to disable 'Write Caching on the Device' for your SSD

I am guessing it is an NVMe PCIe 4.0 connected SSD.
If you do that you'll be downloading faster at least.

One other thing you will need to do is disable NetworkThrottlingIndex,
if you do that as well you can download at max speed.

I also recommend disabling search indexing on your ssd, as well as disabling sysmain completely, but those are less relevant to the download speed.

Edit:
Right click on the start button, select device manager. Find your SSD somewhere below storage devices. Open its properties, go to the policies tab, that is where you find the Write Caching setting.

The NetworkThrottlingIndex is a bit more tricky to find. You need to open up regedit, go to a specific key
( HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE // SOFTWARE // Microsoft // Windows NT // CurrentVersion // Multimedia // SystemProfile )
once you reach that, you'll find the key. It's set by default to 'a', to disable it, you need to set it to 'ffffffff'

For search indexing, you basically only need to right click your C:/ drive and then select properties, then look in the bottom of the properties window and uncheck 'index this'.

sysmain needs to be disabled from the 'services' window. (which can be done in task manager or wherever)

Edit 2: Note that the steam servers are having issues at the moment as well, you can't do much about that. (Its something that is noticable today at least). https://steamstat.us/

I tried it before (and now again on my new device) it does not work. Still the same slow download...:llama:
Having the same issue. On a slow 4Mbps connection (living in the country has some extreme disadvantages), but everything else downloads at that speed or better....except steam. Steam is downloading at only 500kbps and all settings I have tried changing in steam and all the above settings to no avail.
Well, the other things you could try is resetting your tcp/ip stuff, using network troubleshooter (which will do it automatically), changing dns, changing download/region server, etc. I assume you tried that stuff?

netsh ip reset
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

remove browser history and download cache (steam > Settings > webbrowser, Steam > Settings > Download )

fix your pc:
sfc / scannow
chkdsk (scan disk)

optimize tcp (use tcp optimizer)

make sure nothing else using internet is running
disable unnessecary scanny services

check disk health (crystaldiskinfo), make sure it is healthy.
Make sure your disk isn't full.
(remove temp files if needed)
Make sure nothing else is using the disk.
Make sure you defrag the HDDs and TRIM the SSDs with Windows Defragmentation.

then test download.

Note Steam can obliterate 1gbps connections and was pushing 50TB/sec during CP2077

Your downloads are limited by

1) your cpu
2) your disk IO
3) your anti virus
4) your isp
