Downloading Issues
Hello, I am trying to figure out why, that when I'm downloading games, only steam is being capped at 2.2mbps when I just downloaded Fortnite off of Epic game launcher and that was being capped at 60mbps or so. I cleared out my download cache multiple times and I still cant seem to figure out why its doing this. I also reset my router at least 3 times within the last 2 days. I am not a computer or internet smart person at all so if anyone could help that would be wonderful.

Can you go to https://www.speedtest.net/ and link your results?
i dont know how to link stuff (sorry about that) but my idle latency is at 5, my download latency was at 19 or 935.62mbps and my upload is at 125 or 675.24mbps

to be fair I am clueless, I don't know if Steam caps their download or something. But I really hope someone else knows a answer on this.

I can already guess why this happens... with you.
You have an Intel Gen 12 processor, with Performance Cores and Efficiency Cores in my guess
and you're also running Windows 11.
it's a combination that has a little bug.

When you do not keep the steam download window as the window in focus, the active window, etc, then... windows decides to drop the list of performance cores to zero, making Steam only run on efficiency cores.
and these cores are too slow to keep up with your downloading speed. This is a known windows 11 specific bug.

In order to confirm this theory, you will need to use Task Manager or something to look at all of your processing cores and threads and see what happens.

---
Just post your PC's specs so that we can guess better at what it could be, etc.

Im not a computer person so hopefully this is what you were wanting.
SKU: ST-CHRONOS-W-0116
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core 3.9 GHz (4.7 GHz Max Boost)
Case: Skytech Chronos, White Edition w/ Front Mesh
CPU Cooler: Stock Air Cooler
Motherboard: B550
RAM: 16GB DDR4 Gaming Memory 3600 MHz
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 8GB
Primary Hard Drive: 1TB NVMe SSD
Power Supply: 650 Watt 80 Plus Gold Certified
Networking: 802.11 ac
Operating System: Windows 10 Home, 64-bit

I do have it on my main window and nothing else is going on but it still goes only 2.2 mbps for some reason. I even changed my download region from St. Louis to Dallas and nothing changed.

yes, same here. download speed only on steam is terrible, for some reason. change download region, nothing... check download speed, its perfect. win11+win 10, had probs on both platforms.

Can you tell the SSD make and model? You should be able to find it in the hardware tab when opening the properties of your partition under "This PC".

test downloads on epiq store, works very well. With full speed. Nvidia drivers download as well.
only here on steam, it is pain in de ass :D 11MB/s max.
It must be 100MB/s...
cleared the download cache. installed fresh win 11 and steam. prioritized steam in windows. nothing worked

Kabel... wie typisch :) Hab mit echtem Glasfaser und ähnlicher SSD volle Geschwindigkeit. Frag mal bei Pyur nach warum die Steam drosseln.
