steam client possibly doing the same update
Hi, I'm here to see if this is happening to anyone else, but this is the third time that Steam asks to restart due to an update, the problem I suspect is the same update, Steam doesn't ask all the time but it's the third day she asks to update is March 15th

This is a bug that's been around for YEARS. Valve doesn't care. I myself get it every single update. Just update once then when it pops up again (if it's not a patch for that recent update, it will tell you in the description) then hit cancel and it will stop bothering you.

If you are opted in beta what constantly updates. Opt out from it then.

It's not beta, because I'm not in it. Literally the same update will pop up again and ask you to restart. It's a very old bug.

This is NOT a bug that has been around for years!!! I have been using Steam for over a decade and have never experienced updates as frequently that I am currently. Today Steam has updated twice. Yesterday three times. The day before several times. This just started happening this week. This is a recent issue.

Have been with Steam for 17 years now and this is the first time I have had this as well. For the 3/15 update it asked me to restart Steam 2 more times on Thurs and 2 times within 10 minutes of each other today. Something is wrong.

There were multiple re-releases to the update since then too.

Nothing was said about Beta. I've left Beta a long while ago, and can confirm this is a recent issue, pushing the same March 15th update quite a few times.

EDIT: The last time the same update was "re-released" was last month. That occurred a few days after the initial update, and they edited the blog to reflect that date.

However, the blog does not have a new date to reflect when these re-releases were pushed, which defaults under the presumptions it's the same day. However, the issue here is that these re-releases are actually being pushed days later like last time. That's where people will be getting the impression of Steam looping the same updates.

The stable client got a few re-releases to fix other issues that cropped up.

You can read the patch notes where they specify it was re-released...

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/593110/view/3667657526387547990

And it actually had been re-released again after the initial 4 fixes to include 2 more fixes.

So because it's only recently started for YOU, means it hasn't been happening to people like ME for years? Interesting. It even followed me to a brand new computer and fresh install.

I even checked yesterday. Had it update yet again, then after restart had it check again for updates and it found the exact same one again, so I told it to restart and after that checked again and it found the exact same update again...

Although this does seem to be effecting more people recently. Maybe Valve will finally fix it after years then.

Ever since I started using Steam 19 years ago, yes Steam has been installing updates at what seems an excessive rate. But not on the same day, which is what I have been experiencing only in recent days.

Like I said, since this is affecting more users maybe Valve will finally fix it.

5 days later, and just now the client asks to update the same update from 5 days ago. Their blog hasn't added anything to the 5 things on their list that were already there since the time of this thread's posting, and just did it twice for me in less than 10 minutes right now.

This isn't a "re-release". This is a severe bug that's now suspiciously gonna break many Steam DRM'd games.
