Valve index is TRASH
Wsp I'm kellan just a 15 yr old vr enthusiast Now this isn't really a discussion this is more of a review on the valve index which i worked my ass off to get, Pretty much had all the quests rifts ect And around 3 months ago i got a job Worked my ass off 11.50 an hour to buy the "best of the best" Spent my first thousand on a piece of garbage It gets here the 2 base stations have finger prints which i guess just came with them lmao and then and extra 400 hundred on FBT Just to learn in about 2 months of use my 1000$ plastic china device now has stickdrift on both controllers and sound keeps cutting out cant even get an HMD connection Constant rainbow dots in the screen After unplugging re-plugging constant troubleshooting changing wire connections and sometimes it would boot back up without issue but as soon as steam vr exits or restarts my plastic cant even connect. for a while i was also able to unpairall in the lighthouse console and after a couple times it would connect but very rarely Honestly This all might be fixed by a new cord BUT STILL So in all if you're getting a valve you're paying for a bootleg monitor that overheats on your face needs constant tweaking oh and did i also mention it ZAPS MY TEMPLE yes right between my eyes ill sometimes get zapped to where i feel it for minutes after.. honestly maybe this is just a me problem and something out there doesn't want me to enjoy vr, just one of the biggest letdowns I've experienced but hey for valve some kid just gave them a free thousand for some plastic, seems fair

AND The steam controller has a review section, but not the Index or controllers.

Really stupid that the only place you can buy it purposefully blocked reviews. I'm pretty sure Valve knew about the horrible analog sticks. & overall quality

Valve is known to ship defect indexes or indexes that break way too early by using it normally
unfortunately there sits a design flaw within the index and the index is also one of the earliest VR headsets.
I assume that at some point they will release a revision, version 2 or some upgraded variant.

Dont buy the things off aliexpress or ebay … or where ever you are buying them from. Finger prints on a new device…..

I have 2 of them and they work perfectly. I had the HTC vive but it had some issues. One of the controllers on the index stopped connecting but that was because may son smashed it against a wall multiple times at speed.

There is quite a bit of troubleshooting you can do but it doesnt sound like you have the skillset to do it.

What OS are you running? How many USB devices do you have plugged in to your usb ports. How many monitors are you running. What video card do you have? Turn off power saving on your USB ports, unplug everything else in your usb ports. Are you using HDMI or display port? Go into power profile and set it for max performance. When you pull the power on the headset make sure that steam VR is not running by going into task manager and kiling it. Reconnect the power and wait 3 min or so before starting up steam VR. It sounds like you have a cable or video card issue. Or you can get on ebay and get the HP headset omnicept edition. You can get that for around 400 bux and its the same thing without the light houses. The controllers arent as good. The index has the best ones .. but you can get dongles and use them with the HP headset. It has foviated rendering/eye tracking and has a module that tracks your facial expressions too. If might take you a while to find it at that price but just set up an alert for it. Good luck.
