Steam Download Speed Issue for only one Computer
Hello all, let me know if there's a better place to post this, as I'm rather new to this kind of thing.
I have an issue with steam download speeds; specifically it seems like my computer is throttled at 3MB/s or 11MB/s (seems to switch randomly) whenever I start a download. I have gigabyte internet, and my wife's computer doesn't have the same problem; her's will download 100+MB/s consistently. We are both connected to our ASUS RT-AX3000 router via Ethernet cable, with her computer being slightly older than mine spec wise. We're both running windows 10, and both utilizing SSDs.
I've tried:
-Clearing Steam download Cache
-Restarting Router-Made sure steam download throttle isn't selected
-Disabling firewalls/anti-virus
-disabling VPN
-Switching Ethernet cables and ports
-Checked to confirm windows doesn't have a metered connection setup
-Changing download server location

Look at the Performance tab of your task manager and specifically look at which drives are being used or maxed out. Sometimes steam uses the wrong drive when patching a game, making the download process take hours instead of minutes if it uses an HDD instead of an SSD.
Also try running a speedtest from your computer to make sure that the connection can actually do 1 gbps.

Google speed test
and
maybe test for bad packets whiile you are at it.

Still don't ruleout if one is desktop and other is laptop, and it don't make it better if it's desktop that slower then a laptop, that just mean it's even worse, you could have QoS or other issue lenovo ip network management issue. such is seen before, or Netcard driver issue, sometimes even Cat6 cable can matter, they do have diffrent quality

Same problem here, games are downloading @ 3,4 mb/s and lower, but the new GeForce driver was downloaded @ fullspeed 9,7 mb/s

I tried the new Ccleaner, cleared my windows registry and now I am downloading @ fullspeed.

I forgot to mention, Ccleaner is for free

It sounds like the kinda known issue with SSDs on Windows 11. Some Western Digital (WD) black (specific) nvme SSDs (not sata) for some reason have a bug with Write Caching on the Device. Try disabling that setting.

It also appears to happen with a very minor group of Samsung SSDs, but usually updating the firmware fixes the issue. This isn't unfortunately the case with WD. I am guessing WD just plans to move on to the next generation of SSDs to fix that issue.

I recommend running TCP Optimizer to unlock all of your gigabit download speed.
Disable Network Throttling Index for example.

I WOULD GIVE YOU A HUG IF I COULD, THIS ONE REALLY WORKED FOR ME! I tried everything from YouTube to anything from google because I was having trouble with my download speeds on steam for more than a month now, always at 40mbps max when I could reach more than 100mbps in download before, I doubt it was an internet problem since I brought a new internet plan, a better router and upgraded my ethernet cable. So I tried downloading steam games on my GF's laptop and it could easily reach the 100+mbps in download. Then I downloaded the TCP Optimizer and there it is! my 100+mbps in downloads is back! to make sure I tried to download 2 different games just to confirm it. Thankyou once again!
Did you diable all the “green or power saving’” settings on your neteork adapter?
