[solved]Problem with downloading the game, strange disk full
(I want to add that if I downloaded FH5, I had 40GB of disk space left)
Today I decided to download Forza Horizon 5 and I kept seeing the message "Error writing to steam drive" so I cleared the cache (the game had already downloaded 35gb to 125gb) so when I reset I had to redownload the game
when I saw the space on the disk, I expected the value from before downloading and it was still from the previous installation and from 170gb of free space it has already become 90gb
When I tried to search for the game files, I couldn't find them
And when I started the installation it showed that there is enough space and I started to download it and everything looks ok
can anyone help or advise something if someone had this situation in another game?

Sorry for the lack of punctuation because I'm just typing quickly if you have any questions I'll answer

You do know 40gb is seen as nothing today, maybe , we should start say if you dont have ½TB to 1TB free then we cant help you, no one will sit and explan free up space in MB anymore then newest games is 100gb, you can find 1000 of post with this even from past system, free space should be take serious, system has crashed because of such.

its was 10 year ago then 25gb was big games, its like you try find space in tiny disk under 1TB
just so you get it 20yesr ago ppl had 2-3 TB RPM disk.

gl with buy bigger disk. if you have done all correcly in that system then there is nothing to do other then delete games you dont play anymore.

and watch for old ways tip move things around on small disk , aient going to solve the big games today.

The way the installation usually works is that they download the encrypted installer files to your drive then they extract the actual game files from them. That means you actually need far more than the stated requirement.

As a guideline, leave about 2 x the space required. FH5 requires 110 so I would make sure to have at least more than 220 - 110 for the installer files, another 110 for the actual game. Once the installation is complete, steam will automatically delete the installer files so the game only takes up 110 but during the installation process, you need way more than that.

clean your disk up I guess, or buy a bit more storage space. SSDs are really cheap nowadays.
And slow storage, such as microSD is even cheaper. I saw a 2TB microSD for 10 bucks somewhere and a reviewer confirmed it was real. These things aren't worth much at all.

There are sites that sell bulks of SSDs in boxes for a number of bucks, even though stores try to ask for more for just one of them. (they fail because SSDs are now extremely cheap)
meh-

Anyway, good luck.
Especially Sata 6 SSDs are cheap, NVMe is still a bit expensive.

My advise is more storage, much like iceira.

but you can try file management and cleaning your disk

Maybe the program WinDirStat can help you figure out what takes space on your system and where.

The other possibility is that there might be something interfering with you installation. For example, anti virus.

Or windows defender might have been running a scan in the background which can cause your installation to slow down and result in errors. There was a time when I had a failed installation because windows defender was running an automatic scan in the background while steam was installing a game which resulted in my system becoming very slow and the installation throwing up an error.

You always need more space due to de-compression of files when installing a game i would guess, also NTFS file system in windows needs about %20 free space or you will be having degraded performance

Ok, I decided to buy a new drive and it's supposed to come to me in a week and by the way, thank you for devoting your time to a moron like me. Thank you again
