Steam on a laptop
When I play on my laptop it over heats. Is there away to play the game directly on my laptop or tv and not have it go through steam?? Thanks in advance for the help. FYI I have a NON-smart tv. Willing to buy smart tv if needed.

It's not Steam that overheats your laptop, it's the game. You can't play it directly on a TV, it'll still have to stream from the laptop.

Dust out your laptop and check your fans. Lower graphics and such to lessen the load. Could even be you're trying to play a game above specs.

What temps are you getting? By "over heating" is it your impression or actual figures?
Shutting down?

I suggest op installs montoring for his temperatures on their laptop and test it out, and write down and copy on here what the temperatures they are reaching. If not, read this, it will tell op how to monitor temperatures on their pc:

https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/how-to-check-cpu-temp-temperature

Then the op would have to play test their games and measure and write down the temperature rates per game. Then they would have to submit a list of the highest temperatures per game on here. I suggest op does this and it will help them determine what they are exactly experiencing.

This method is kinda similiar to benchmarking tests on a pc. Many tests with different games needs to be done to determine the issue with the op.

@rpg gamer man thanks for the link.
I had my husband help check game and computer specks. I have more than what is recommended. The laptop got extremely hot in upper left hand side with in seconds of starting the game. I have Acer gaming laptop.

What are the system specs of that laptop and what games are you attempting to play?

Keep in mind, Steam does not run any games, your computer does. Steam is just a launcher, just like for example the Microsoft store for all those apps on the Microsoft store.

A laptop being very hot, even turning off indicates bad cooling, either through obstructed airflow, bad cooling design or even a combination of those.

What are you seeing that leads you to believe the problem is Steam and not the games themselves?

Most likely since their on a laptop, it probably has bad airflow issue.

Please, just answer our basic questions.

What laptop is it, what specs does it have and which games were you attempting to play?
