The best way to resolve this issue is to wait a period of time (usually several hours) and then try logging in again. This should allow enough time for the retry limit to reset and for you to attempt to log in again.
If you continue to receive this error message even after waiting, there may be an issue with your internet connection or your Steam account. Here are some steps that you can try to resolve the issue:
Clear your browser cache and cookies. Sometimes, cached data can cause issues with the Steam client.
Check your internet connection. Make sure that you are connected to a stable and fast internet connection, as a slow or unstable connection can cause issues with the Steam client.
Try resetting your Steam settings. To do this, go to the Steam client settings, click on "Interface", and then click on "Reset Steam Settings". This will reset your Steam settings to their default values and may resolve any issues with the client.
Contact Steam Support for further assistance. If none of the above steps work, you may want to contact Steam Support for additional support. They can help you troubleshoot the issue and may be able to provide a solution to the problem.
It's important to note that the retry limit is in place to protect your account from unauthorized access, so it's important to be patient and allow enough time for the limit to reset before attempting to log in again.
Important to be patient? I've been trying to recover my password for weeks. The only way to communicate with Steam Support is through their support menu which if I submit another request, it tells me a ticket has already been submitted; so I wait for days. So I did get my password reset and I'm logged into Steam via my browser and dare NOT to logout. What I cannot do? Launch my game. I get sent (email) a code and after I enter it, it tells me it faiis due to I have to wait to be forced to change my password. I'm doing that now and guess what? "An error occurred trying to handle that request. Please give us a few minutes and try again". So frustrating.
I'm having the same problem today, it falsely says "there have been too many retries" after my first try reconnecting due to being forcibly logged out of my session. Then I tried logging in from other accounts and the same bs message appears: "there have been too many retries".
I've even downloaded their crappy app on my phone now, logged in there, used the "steam guard" to scan the QR code from the pc client and it still displays an error message, this time saying there was an error and asking me to try again later. I paid for my games and I want to play them. Fix your joke of a client.
That's why I always ticked the always remember this computer whenever I logged in.. In that way, I'll not enter my password again (I'll be using this setup for now, until they fixed the issue).
@About47Pandas - I can't seem to find this option in the Steam settings.
Password reset seems to solve the problem, but can't use special characters in it, so I've changed my password twice to recover the right to use my account.
Still waiting for the cooldown on my other account as I'm still experiencing the issue when trying to login again.
9/10 I get a "failed to connect" messages first Steam start, have to kill processes then redo.
This occurs after a fresh install even.
NOW....I'm getting this too many retries error if I go into offline mode, then try switch online.
Clearly, this new login method recently implemented and integrated with the phone 2 factor auth is doing something mad.
