moderator steam on discord
a few days ago some homie wrote to me on discord that he and his buddies accidentally sent a few reports about him cheating people about money. gave me a hashtag on discord to steam moderator to remove these reports. It turned out that I had 246 reports on this topic. asked for a verification code so he could log into my account to delete it. told me to send my purchase history. logged in and changed all data. I didn't even give him my password and he just wanted a verification code. He asked me to prove that all the things I bought were with "legal" money. asked me to send him a $50 steam gift card. I told him I only had $20. so I was supposed to buy a $20 steam gift card. I bought it and sent it. and he said that is only 48% of the whole process. I'm supposed to bring him another $20 steam gift card for tomorrow. because if not, it will delete my account. I'm afraid it's a scammer. his tag is " Brian Jacobson#7275
tell me if i should trust him

it's not on this account that I wanted to cheat but answer anyway

Don't tell or give them anything. It's all a scam.
Secure your account NOW if you did give them anything.

Steam will NEVER contact you through discord, chat or other means.

Steam ALWAYS uses the following methods to get contact to you:
Account alerts (if they are the initiator)
Support tickets (if you are the initiator)

This is how an account alert looks like:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1818735050

This is how a support ticket looks like:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1440035608

Again, Steam will NEVER use Discord or any other third-party method.

If you ever need support, find any real support on your own. Do not follow the path scammers tell you.

Way too fake. Isn't it obvious?
Aside from the Steam FAQ stating that Steam Employees do not use discord for any reason,
this person is stating their fake job in all caps and that little bit of text they put there has more problems with its English in it than I make typos. Their use of English is terrible.

Edit: I'll try to explain how:
First, its not a paid for account. (no custom, easy to remember discord tag. It has a random generated number.)
Second, we see "feel free to add", but not what to add. Its childishly formatted, rather than professionally.
Third, Steam valve employee is just a weird way of describing it. Valve employee is correct, or Steam Support employee is correct. Steam Valve is non-existant.
Fourth, always gladly to help (Who speaks like this?)
Fifth, 'in' any steam problem (.... in? also, what is 'steam' to them? Normally they say "Steam" at least, but then add "community", "client", "service", etc. )

and a Sixth, just a member for a year? That is suspicious.

Also where did they get the term 'legal security'? I mean, there is security and legal advise, but the combination is weird.
like..

I don't see how this isn't a scammer.

Eluciator, I completely agree with you, they are 100% a scammer.
I was just wasting their time.
But they really went through with it, making videos of fake steam admin pages and more

I can see how someone who is freaked out can fall for that yeah...
that does look intimidating, but the details (which you can't really see very quickly) also obviously show its a scam.

I guess no scammer has ever had their own game hub. Valve doesn't use the term "Action(s)" for example.
"Authenticator" instead of "Authentication"
They constantly do Caps Here when Dealing With things, but for some reason phone number is all lower case.
They choose the word "Delete" instead of remove when talking about the Steam Account.

And this last one actually isn't a mistake, even though it is when the rest has remove in it.
Delete sounds harsher, it sounds more intimidating, more threatening.
Its psychological manipulation.

being scared and the adrenaline can be blinding.

The second page also makes no sense. They again make sure you can read "deleted", instead of just permanently suspended, because they are trying to make it sound scarier and more intimidating. (like what is the point of removing when you can revoke access)

Its all to psychologically manipulate you into believing them.

"and otherwise interacting" xd... (another usecase of bad enlish)

The bottom line is also scary.

There is a lot of weirdness there, but that confusion is also on purpose to make you loose sight of what is in front of you and get you scared. By making you confused and doubt reality, you can only trust them.
This is called gaslighting.

For example, you will wonder "Why my whole account for an item in my inventory that they can easily remove"
with that confusion in your head processing, you'll be blinded by what is in front of you and you will miss a lot of cues... and you'll feel like can only trust other people. (that is their goal)
Once that happens they will succesfully decide reality for you instead of letting you observe it.

edit: That mouse pointer is there to keep your eyes distracted as well.

edit 2: The point being... if they show you this clip, they assume they already control enough of your panic and fear. And its likely you'll fall for it. You need to stop it in its tracks before they show you this fake clip.

One day in a topic like this, someone created such a "fake video" on the way "in real time" to explain it to the user. With his account in the video.
It was heartwarming.

He moved over the name, highlights stuff, moves mouse to the "SCARY STUFF" part, but it says
"EVERYTHING IS FINE"
and the scary button says:
"there will be no ban".

Asking to log into your account + asking for gift cards.
Two scammer trademarks.
Eyzaro 2023 年 11 月 25 日 上午 8:43
i think they "levelled up" i've been contacted by someone who told me i've been reported and that i needed to give him my purchase history (the report was "illegal purchase") and he asked to have my steam account name too (quite fishy). All that sh*t was quite well done to be fair so be careful
Cathulhu 2023 年 11 月 25 日 上午 9:04
So, just the usual nonsense basic scam they use for years.

You still were contacted by someone random telling you random stuff and what to do.

Thats not a conversation you should have in the internet
