You can also "look for changes in hardware", using hardware monitor.
Practically, both give the same result as pulling the cable and reconnecting it.
Try CMD
and then type diskpart, hit enter
then type list disk, hit enter.
The device should be listed there. If not, you need to look at the cables.
Edit:
Make sure the drive in question isn't part of Storage Spaces:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/storage-spaces-in-windows-b6c8b540-b8d8-fb8a-e7ab-4a75ba11f9f2#WindowsVersion=Windows_10
(its basically Windows trying to emulate RAID setups using virtualization)
If your SSD is part of a storage space, it is excluded as a standalone drive from the list.
Cause windows will detect it once its connected.
Disconnect it while system is shutdown, start computer in that order.
Connect it. Windows will see the hardware then.
If you formatted its gone.
But once you install Steam again all your games are tied to your account forever.

Is the driver listed anywhere? If not in windows, in the bios?
Here is some problem solving things, one of them may work.
1. SSD got ejected, because that SATA port is set to "Hotplug" = Just Reboot
2. Partition was deleted = You're fu**ked, SSD do TRIM (set all zeroes).
3. SSD is set as "Offline" - use disk management and set it to "Online" again.
4. Drive letter was removed, just set a new one using disk management.
5. If the BIOS sees it, hardware-wise its still working and has power. If it was set to disabled, enable it (why it is marked disabled is beyond me there)
If those don't work, only god know what you did.
So was it a separate partition.
Have you tried system restore?
windows 10?
