Can i use gems to buy profile backgrounds??

I got some trading cards and their total value is around 160-170 gems.
So i was wondering if you ca n use the gems to buy profile background or not.
Any help will be appreciated.

Only if you get 1k gems and put them into a Sack of Gems and sell the sack to get some change for a background to purchase.

It would have been easier to just sell the cards.

Sell cards (you even have a foil card) - buy backgrounds, no need to turn them into gems.

Converted gems are usually of a lower value than the item itself, it's better to sell or trade those items for backgrounds you want. Only static backgrounds are tradable/marketable, animated backgrounds can only be obtained from the Points Shop.

Gems have limited use, either use gem to make game booster pack you can, or sell on market place, gems can be traded as well, and if have 1000 gems you can turn it into a gem sack which can sell on market place.

You can sell trading cards themselves on market place, if game hasn't been removed from store, or can trade with other people.

That basically your options what you can do with your gems, or trading cards.

And selling those cards, still not enough funds to get a background 😭

There are tons of backgrounds in the Marketplace that can be purchased with Steam wallet funds. Some will only cost 3¢. Now, the animated backgrounds in the Point Shop are a different matter. For those you have to buy games to get the points needed to get them.

Only some can be bought, as those were giveaways if watch the stream to get the drop for them AFAIK, otherwise backgrounds you buy from Steam point shop are not tradable, nor marketable.

Also some them go high as $30 lmao might as well buy a game, and redeem it for free at that point. But yea there some that go for pennies.
