You were backseat moderating and support doesn't like that.
Steam is really becoming worser and worser, reminding people on the TOS is now a crime, how hillarious.
They go on reported content. Your post was reported and acted upon.
Yeah and as i said, they should check on the person insulting, instead they decided to go after the person that reminded that person that there is a TOS and that they should not act like they do. Its nonsense to make "backseat moderation" even a thing. Its okey to make warnings if someone clearly pretends to be a moderator, a moderator imposter. But if someone clearly says "hey, i reported you, if you continue this behavior im sure more people will report you and you will earn yourself a ban" is not a sentence a moderator would write, a moderator would clearly send you a "warning" or a "ban" depending on the insult level. So i didnt pretend to be a moderator, and as i said "backseat moderation" should not even be a thing, its just reminding people on the TOS.
Hey someone is attemting to kill someone else on the street, wait im not a cop, so i dont intervent by saying "hey stop that, its against the law" or by measurable actions, no i sit there call the cops(or even dont do it) and wait till they arive. Great logic.
The fact you literally described backseat moderating and disagreed with people doing it in your own comparison and are still unaware is simply amazing.
Im not unaware of backseat moderating, im just stating that backseat moderating should not even be a thing, its like someone bans or warns you because you buy bread in them backery. Making a non negative thing a thing a support worker can warn or even ban you about is redicioleus, its in no logic of measures. Its like you walk down the street and a cop detains you because you walk down the street. But in reality you did nothing that even apologizes such drastic reaction. Thats how weird our world has become. Hey there are people in a burning house, i run in and save them, gets detained for backseat-firefighting, how dare you saving those people, thats the job of the firefighter, he decides if they burn to dead or if they get rescued.
In your analogy you've seen someone breaking the law and you decide to play policeman and tell them what they shouldn't do. In that situation, the police would tell you not to confront people - to call them and let them deal with it. Otherwise It just causes fights, arguments and back and forth name calling.
(and every fire company going tells you NOT to go back into a burning building, even if you think you can save someone)
I have heard of people claiming steam moderation being too harsh considering targetting people who use insults, calling it "woke", and "Left" and stuff like that. (see Off Topic)
I think they have problems deciding what is and isn't supposed to be warned.
Steam Moderators seem to have forgotten about the Private Message feature; they basically always resort to deliver 'warnings' when you need to be spoken to about behavior.
A warning is just a warning though, nothing to worry about. Its just that you need to keep in mind that moderators are there to look at and address issues.
Always try to keep yourself to the rules where possible and try to keep the topic on track where you can; plenty of in between slight interruptions happen often and people will try to keep it about that pretty often as well; its really hard for moderators to determine who is trying to get a topic to derail as well.
Also, it should be noted that 'moderators may lie to get a point across'.
They can warn you for anything basically. If they see something they don't trust or like, they will warn you, remove your post or otherwise moderate.
They didn't want you to start threatening the other user.
They didn't want you to report to them that you reported them. (As it could cause flaming I assume).
Keep in mind you didn't just remind them of the TOS, you told them what the consequences where for 'such post', even though that judgement is up to the moderation team.
So basically, your post was a threat to the other user, much like saying: "Stop, or else."
And so, being the judge of those posts is wrong for a regular forum user. I suspect that is why they label it backseat moderation in your warning.
Comparing actual emergencies to this is also inaccurate, Going off what you said so for all i know you could of actually said something much worse but it's like saying "I called the cops on you because i think you are loitering, if you continue im sure you will be arrested". but it's still boils down to "Stop doing this because im sure you will get banned". It still puts your judgement that it did violate the rules and the mods also saw it like that so backseat moderating but like i said, for all i know you could of said something much worse or have a history of making false reports. Also try not to argue with moderators decisions or telling mods how to do their job like in this thread in the future, chances are you will just make it worse for yourself.
This scammer had followed him under the post he had created, and I had highlighted others on the accounts with which he cheated, according to the moderator it was shaming, yes it was probably shaming, the important thing for me was to help the user recover the account he.
This scammer was also mentioned by other users, his account still exists, despite everything.
Don't be surprised, here things work a bit as they want and even if you sometimes think you're doing things in good faith it doesn't change things.
Valve was called to explain to a member of the US government, I don't remember the name, regarding the methods/tools used regarding racism, fascism, nazism, discrimination, hatred in general, etc. which is rampant a lot on this platform, my opinion, current methods are practically useless.
I don't have any social networks, I have no interest in these things, but I know for sure that Twitter, for example, directly closes accounts on these contents, this action is not taken here.
But I believe this situation will be imposed or at least implement other more incisive methods.
